Actually I was wrong. After thinking about it, the best thing I ever bought was my 1994 Camaro Z28, 6-spd with T-tops. Bought it new the week I graduated college. All through college I wanted a sports car, it was my distant intangible reward for doing all the studying and class work and getting the good grades. It was the goal that kept me driven to do it all. That car was my trophy, my gift to myself for a job well done. The day I bought it was the real day I graduated from college.
Then I sold it in 1999 to buy my house when my ex-wife and I were getting married, because without that money we couldn’t afford to get the house.
God Damn I miss that car, I still to this day have dreams of driving it now and then. Sitting in it was like being a fighter pilot, with all of the controls at your fingertips. The center cluster was angled towards me, the radio controls were right at my fingers reach as my right hand lay comfortably on the shift knob. Big clean gauges, good solid controls, loud Bose 8 speaker stereo, you could feel the exhaust being forced past you as the pipes were against your right leg along the transmission, the car would rock from torque when you revved it at a stop light. The way the rear end would slide around a corner under total control as the front held the road like it had a death grip. And the sound, My God the rumble of the exhaust…
I’d buy a used one, but it just wouldn’t be the same…
