Wrong. The Iraqi police turned him over to the US Military which illegally detained him for 13 days and he was not released until his family sued the military. From this morning's Chicago Trib:

"A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Berg was in Iraq "of his own accord" and had been advised to leave Iraq but refused. The official refused to elaborate but promised more information later Wednesday.

According to his family, Berg, a small telecommunications business owner, spoke to his parents on March 24 and told them he would return home on March 30. But he was detained by Iraqi police at a checkpoint in Mosul on March 24.

Berg was turned over to U.S. officials and detained for 13 days. His father, Michael, said his son wasn't allowed to make phone calls or contact a lawyer. On April 5, the Bergs filed suit in federal court in Philadelphia, contending that their son was being held illegally by the U.S. military. The next day Berg was released. He told his parents he hadn't been mistreated. His family last heard from him April 9 but it was unclear when and where he was abducted."

Do you really think you're getting the whole story in the Tribune? The facts are probably accurate. But

Here is a completely plausible scenario:

Berg gets arrested by Iraqis. he tells them everything; I am an American, I am a contractor, I live here, I have no weapons, I am not a threat, I am trying to help rebuild etc.

Finally an Iraqi police commander that speaks to US interests told the US about Berg and he was detained by the military. it took 13 days out of bureaucratic fucking up.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi 'policeman' was talking to some people one night who said they wanted to kidnap an American. The Iraqi policeman said "I know where you'll find one, unarmed, could be Jewish."

BING. This guy gets caught up.

There is Iraqi complicity here. read between the lies.

Actually there is an underground black market for cranium skulls. I fear the American Government is sacrificing citizens to help fund the war. To keep costs down they outsource work to Islamic terrorists to do the beheading be setting up Americans to be captured. They then pick up the body and head, give the body to the family and then sell the head. American heads are worth 10 times more than say a hindu head. Something about more protein in the diet produces a better skull.

Kerry should use this in his next ad, "Bush funds war with American Heads!"

That would make some heads roll.

When the country turns into a poverty-stricken lawless jungle of rebels and mafias and murderers, ala palestine, or many latin american and african countries -- we'll be wishing Saddam was still there keeping them under control.
