i only wear my cape when im having sex ;)

the corby case makes me really, really angry. if i could lay my hands on the little rock ape judge i dont know what id do to him - the bali bomber, killer of hundreds of people, was treated better than this girl, and there was no reasonable doubt. fucken bastards

My gut reaction was outrage over how harsh her sentence was but then I realized that someone here in the "free" USA could get a penalty just as harsh for posession with intent to distribute (9 pounds ain't personal use).

My problem with this case deals more with whether she is actually guilty. The judge refused to allow key defense evidence. The motive for smuggling drugs INTO a country where it is worth considerably LESS than the exporting country doesn't make sense. Based on these two facts, I seriously doubt her guilt. As for the person that said she acted nervous when she was asked to open her bags, that doesn't mean shit. I frequently get nervous when dealing with law enforcement even if they aren't accusing me of anything.

Anyway, I hope the Aussie government can help her out. I would think that Indonesia would not want such bad publicity for their tourism industry that's already suffering from terrorism and the tsunami.

ummm perhaps the US should lend a hand in the fact they could easily step up and say

"Look here you stupid fucks we just gave you millions and millions of dollars in aid now enough with this BS or you won't see another dime" perhaps mass tidal waves are just Gods way of dishing out karma (well not really)

I think she's innocent, there is no logical reason for her to have smuggled it in for various reasons already given

Why would we do that? Harsh punishment for drug crimes fits right in with our governements ideals.

said that we could and should not that we will

although I think supporting Australia is a better move then supporting some country that is pretty much worthless to the rest of the world except in tourism

BBC World broadcast her sentencing. Heart wrenching. It was an absolute chaotic scene - crowed court room, her friends and family screaming... SCREAMING at the injustice. This poor girl shaking and crying, the ANGUISH and AGONY in her face and body. There was no real 'trial'. She had no opportunity to defend herself. She had to push through the police to hug her mother.

It was aweful and scary.

Agreed

I'm sure their are many in the DEA who would like to see the same types of punishments here.

Indonesia, which like Australia, imprisons scores of foreigners for drug smuggling each year, says it sees no need to grant Corby any special exemptions. Her plight could complicate improving relations between the two neighboring countries in the fight against terrorism and in the aftermath of the Asian tsunami in December.

If the trials will not be objectively and justly trialed or for her to be deported out of Indonesia and sentenced at her homecountry and the conclusion appears that she will be jailed for 20 years- this will have serious political implications towards Indonesia and Australia.

I recalled listening on the radio last night that one of her relatives was shouting how the Australians have unconditionally saved many of the Indonesian people from the tsunami, some have lost their lives for these people and yet a reciprocation or sympathy from the Indonesian government is not even seen.
