Got reprimanded for supposedly dropping weights at gym during deadlifts

A "personal trainer" (and I use that term very loosely) at my gym (local YMCA) asked me to not drop the weights during my deadlifts. She claimed it would fall through the floor :) Then she said if the weights are too heavy, I should get someone to spot me :)

Now, I don't drop the weights. I try to carefully put them down, but putting down 300+ pounds is going to make some noise.

Anyhow, I plan on writing them and requesting some rubber mats.

Has anyone ever been successful in getting their gym to accommodate them in situations like these? Or do you guys think I am going to have to start looking for another gym and/or start building out a home gym?

Okay, how the hell do you get a spot during a Dead Lift? Don't you just, like, let go? I don't see how someone could help you place the weight on the ground softer.

Rewiew your contract is all I can really suggest if you have one, tell them to terminate it if it doesn't state any of those as rules at the time you signed up and find a new gym.

Or just tell her a Terrorist told you to place the weight softly on the ground and not drop it, and ask her Why does she hate America? Then she'll think you are crazy and think you'll bite her ear off and leave you alone.

No, nobody ever does anything to resolve a situation in a logical way. You will end up leaving... but in the meantime, write that letter, keep fighting the good fight, and try and be a little more careful (if u want??), not much else you can do. 300 pound people walk around ymca's all the time, and even jump up and down. Why would a 300+ pound deadlift break through the floor, rofl.

I would have responded with "does your insurance company know you are endangering us with a sub-standard floor??? " "maybe we should write them a letter"

The funny thing was, is that today I started using chalk for my deads. When she came over, I thought she was going to say something about the chalk (which, I fear, once they catch on, that I will be asked to not use chalk, either). Instead, she does her little tirade about the weights falling through the floor.

I have never heard of weights so heavy that they fell through a gym floor (and a brand new building at that).. and it completely caught me off guard...completely messed with my head (any South Park fans remember the Chewbacca defense? :) ) and I guess I just had this dumbfounded look on my face and all I could say was "OK." LOL.

who is downstairs from the Y? Did they complain?
It's a huge, freestanding, brand new, 3 story building. There are meeting rooms and offices on the floor below. Another member said someone from that floor probably complained.

Yeah, I don't know. If only a member of my local curling crew were there to spot me ...those guys curl so much they should be able to curl 300+ lbs and be able to spot my deads and do it very silently :)

ROFL

I always wished I was quicker thinking when it came to comebacks. If I could only go back in time ...

Next time you see her, tell her to shut the fuck up and suck your dick while you lift!!! 300+lbs is not gonna be set down lightly by anyone. So keep slamming the weights and keep it pushing!
