ALA.....6+ grams per day! Yeah baby!

1500mg of ALA seems a lot with some of the meals I eat which just consists of chicken breasts with nothing else. How much ALA should I take with low carb meals? My daily carb intake is around 150g a day.
 
Jeez, where were you guys yesterday (Rangerx, Nautica, machine) when I fighting with a bunch of little college punks who
couldn't afford ALA?:D It's pretty funny how they run the fuck
away when they start to see the cold hard truth smack em in
da face. Oh well.

I have to thank Fonz for one of the first (and most informative)
post's about ALA. I have done a LOT of research on this myself
and thanks to Rangerx (who I REALLY have to thank) for getting
me excited enough to try it at these doses, I have felt the power
of ALA. Diet and useage are like this,

7:00am 1Tbs Natural Peanut butter, 1/2 cup oatmeal, whey
isolate shake (40grams protien) 900mg ALA. I usually take ONLY
900mg's in the morning since morning gluclose levels are low
to begin with.

10:00am. Whey Isolate shake, trail mix (consisting of nut's and
dried fruit, 130kcal) 1200mg ALA

1:00pm Spinich Salad w 2 large Grilled Chicken breast's, 1tbls
olive oil, 1/2 cup tri-colored pasta. 1200mg ALA

3:00pm Whey Isolate Shake, trail mix. 1200mg ALA

5:30pm (Pre-workout) 1 carbo-force, 1500mg ALA

7:00pm (Post-workout) 1/2 carbo force w whey isolate. 1200mg ALA. I then eat about 1/2 an hour later usually pretty low on
the carbs. Depend's on how I'm feeling.

So this is pretty much what I eat most of the time. I don't really
care about eating the same shit every day! I am still dieting (until
Saturday!!! As you can see by the math, I am actually taking
more like 7200mg's a day. As I said in numerous post's, the ONLY
negative side effects I am feeling are tiredness (on occasion),
little moody, and pretty bad acne on forehead. It only looks
bad when you are VERY close to me, otherwise you can't really
tell. I have always had clear skin so it's a new one for me. When
I didn't take ALA for like a day and 1/2 a few weeks back, the
acne went away like magic. I'm not worried.

Yes blood glucose is low but insulin sensitivity is HIGH, 2nd to only after your workout..so that’s a huge reason why you wouldn’t need that much ALA in the morning..


I cant offer any arguments for or against high dose ALA other than the old “I just have a feeling its not a good idea” but iron and biotin deficiency is a risk so be sure to supplement those. But like I said I cant say yes or no as to whether or not you should take this dose...

Maybe you should email test.net with this question on high dose ALA see if their “gurus” can come up with an answer….
 
Time released ALA with a much longer half life than regular ALA : Jarrow 300mg/pill. No need to take as much as 1200-1500mg each meal...

Sorry, didn't click on the thread until today... lol... 6+ grams eh? You are supplementing with extra minerals, right? I think I'd have some concerns about ingesting that much S-type ALA via the racemic mixture (vs. pure R(+)); but I'd have to research to find out more (i.e. rule problems out to a reasonable degree)... If supplementing with pure R-type then I don't see how it could cause problems at all. I thought Jarrow had a pure R-type product (which I believe would also reduce the levels (dosage) needed for effect), but I can't seem to find it...

Props to you and rangerx83 for guinnea-pigging -- and it sounds like you and rangerx83 have done some good research into the subject. Just stay safe with it; perhaps take a break occassionally to let your body "air-out" -- just in case... It concerns me a little that we're not talking about those studies that decadense posted showing some of the negatives about S-type ALA... Also, I know it has a short half-life, but perhaps one of us should look into whether ALA has any build-up in the system over time -- especially at such high doses... That could be a problem if any stored ALA/metabolites interact with newly ingested ALA in a way that causes increased levels in the system over what is expected...

I will say that I feel very comfortable at 2.5 - 3.5 grams/day for 3-4 weeks at a time w/ equal time off, and am doing some research into it's interaction to possibly get the same effects with less dosage.

Others: Either way, unless you've tried ALA with a moderately carby diet, then don't try to say it doesn't work -- it most definitely does. Quite astonishing really. I'd consider ALA more of a fat-loss-while-mass-maintaining compound. Very cool.

My dosing protocol was very simple; (and I'm going to experiment with it next time around):

Basically, any meal with 25 grams or less of carbs was dosed with 500 mgs of powder; any meal between 25-100 grams of carbs was doesed with a gram. Total dosage varies by day (due to fluctuations in carb intake), but generally remained somewhere between 2.5 to 3.5 grams/day. I did not take it with no-carb meals (i.e. tuna, cottage cheese, meat).
 
Machine- Yeah, you can say at 6+ grams a day we are guniea
pigs for sure. I just can't get over these people who are screaming about this being all hype because they either
a. Are not using it properly...or
b. Are not using enough...(I know, 6 grams is a lot).

My body composition has changed dramatically since I have
been using it. MANY of my friends think I'm juicin and don't
believe me when I tell them it's just ALA. I am not getting
bigger, I am just losing bodyfat hence I LOOK bigger. I am
harder and getting stronger though all while losing body fat.

You forgot c. -- have never used it at all and are just talking out of their ass.

I think there would be fewer naysayers if all people used ketostix with it to really ensure that they are in ketosis.

I can understand why people would show concern over 6 grams a day. I believe that most of the guys are trying to help by pointing out their doubts about the dosage and their concerns for your health... I think you should look at it as a positive thing...

Also, like everything else, there may truly be some non-responders... Like creatine, doesn't do shit for me, but I know it works for a lot of guys...

ALA is a bad-ass compound though if taken appropriately. Congrats on your progress so far. Just stay safe... A lifetime of fucked up isn't worth it...

Fucked me up this morning hearing about it. Still don't feel
right. I hear you about people's "concern's" but it seems like
more people have more negative shit to say about ALA then
the doses. You wanna call me crazy for "experimenting", go ahead, but I can't stand people trying to I am full of shit. Fuck
em, more ALA for me.
