Tanning actually makes your skin worse in long run...acne wise. It may help clear it up temporarily in the begining but, your skin actually starts to produce extra oil to protect and compensate for dryness from prolonged tanning. Excess oil as we all know causes more breakouts and slick shiny skin...Yuck!
Most of the time tanning will dry up the sebum in the papule, postule or cyst. Then the erruption will eventually peel off with time or exfoliation. However tanning could definitely make the scarring look more prominent, due to the fact that the scar has little or no pigment, and is more likely to burn and this will demonstrate a greater contrast between the scar and the rest of the skin. This will make the scar more noticeable.
CO2 pulse laser resurfacing if done aggresively will yield the best results as the laser gets deep in the dermal layers and has an additional beneficial effect on being able to seal and bond together the scar to some degree. This for the most part is an unexplainable phenomenon as explained by my dermatologist. To receive the best results, it is recommended that the whole area surrounding the scars be resurfaced and not just the region where the scars reside.
For facial it can cost between 3k-5k, but if done is well worth it as it is the best method to achieve near total erradication of scars.(you can never totally eliminate a scar)
Other options are artecol injections. These are injections consisting of microcapsules of a collagen type of substance which is injected underneath the scar. After about 4mos the microcapsules are replaced with actual collagen which then lifts the scar, pot mark closer to the surface thus making the scar less deep and less prominent.
This procedure may have to be repeated every 18 mos and the cost is approx.$750.00 for a half cc which will cover the surface area of one cheek. They also use this for lines ie.crow feet.
Peels are great for minor scars, lines and wrinkles and of course the effects are temporary and need to be performed about every 4-6mos.
