Who has SUCCESSFULLY quit smoking?

I used to smoke like a pack a day back in college, but now I just smoke whenever I drink. When I'm not drinking cigarrettes are nasty as fuck to me. Weird huh. But, since I'll be getting pretty f'd up tonight I guess I'll be smoking alot tonight, and I don't mean just cigarettes!LOL.

PS. Just a side note I remembered, I smoke one cigarrette before each football game, seems to bring me luck or something????

Forgot to say, I just quit cold turkey. I just convinced myself that cigarrettes are nasty and they make me sick. I guess I sort of hipnotized myself or something and drinking breaks the spell!??

I remember reading that Alexi lalas(sp?) used to smoke a pack before a soccer game b/c he said it expanded his lungs. Talk about fucked up logic:confused:

I quit cold turkey about 5 years ago.I got sick and started having bad chest pains in the lt. side of my chest. It scared me to the point that I have'nt had one since. I smoked a pack a day for 10 yrs. When you have a craving for one just think about all the people that have died of cancer.I know several myself.

When I was in the Army I started smoking there...about 3 years later when I got out. I quit about 2 months after moving back here. Just lost it's meaning to me I guess. I have a smoke ever so often though, usually when i go out driking with the fellas.

for some they have to quit a few times before they get it right. while nicotine is very hard to quit, eventually you'll be able to break free of it's effects. Cold turkey is the best way to do it, and it'll help greatly if your wife quits too. also know this, don't ever fool yourself into thinking it's okay to have a smoke every now and then after you've quit. once an addict, always an addict. lets say it's been a few months and you've not had a cigarette. So you decide to treat yourself by having one. Trust me on this that in a week or two you'll be buying a pack and you'll be back smoking like you used to. I know because I've been there. I've gone stretches of a year and a half without smoking and then BANG!, one smoke and I'm back in Marlboro Country. Good luck, AND BE STRONG!! It aint easy to quit, but it is possible.

P.S. the best time to start a bulking cycle is when quitting smoking. you'll also have improved endurance, and sense of smell and taste.

I was a smoker for 9 years. I tried to quit a number of times and failed at every attempt. When I finally did quit it was the easiest thing to do. I realised whenever I tried to quit I built it up to be a huge thing and set myself up for failure. It was a lot easier to just think that I was skipping a cigarette and it was no big deal, in the end. The initial first 2/3 weeks are the hardest. But you can make this time easier if you coincide your quitting period with an illness which prevents you from smoking. I had an influenza related throat infection where I physically could not smoke even if I wanted to.

The last big lesson is to never even touch a cigarette, even just to test whether you can still resist it - worst mistake you can make! Final conclusion, you will know when the day comes when you reach the end of your teather and just want to kick the habit and once your off for a while if the temptation ever occurs just contemplate what it would be like to have to go through that whole psychological trauma of stopping again, if you start!!! Ahhh!! ;)

Humilation method

I quite about 15 years ago in an odd way. I found myself able to control my buyiung cigarettes, but not able to resist one if they were around. So I committed to not buying any, and then had to bum them from friends, until my friends started getting pretty angry.

I tapered off pretty quickly.

The most important thing in the first few months is avoiding being around people smoking. That's easy here in California, since smoking hardly allowed anywhere indoors. Stick with the nonsmokers when the others go out to light up.

It's the best thing you can do for yourself, quitting, and as your energy and senses of taste and smell return, you'll be very glad you did. These days, when I see people smoking, I think: "People still DO that??!!"

this worked for me too.

I've quit a long time ago but for some reason i just don't get addicted to things easily so i am able to go long periods of time without cravings. Only thing is, when i have to go for a s**t, i need a cigarette. It's like a laxative for me.
