Welcome please check the stickies at the top of the board. Read the Shadow plan has a great out line for diet and training.
Cardio 5 times a week for an hour is just going to cause more muscle lose and flab if your not eating properly or lifting weights.

Hey girl welcome to EF! Aggreed with superqt to check out the stickies.

I think it's important for a woman who wants to lose fat to realize that you will NOT gain too much muscle eating what you are and not lifting any weights. You are not giving your body the stimulus to do so.
If you are going to eat rice, bread and oats, I'd try to keep them brown rice, old fashioned oats (this takes me 7 minutes to cook) and multi grain bread (not so much white or wheats)... also keep them earlier in the day.

Milk & Oats in the breakfast is fine, but a little fat (low fat) milk MAY help as well as a protein (egg whites or Protein shake) so you are not ingesting
strictly carbs. Without getting too techincal the added fat & protein can slow the release of sugars in the bloodstream which MAY prevent the sugar to be stored inside of fat cells.. goal is to shrink fat cells not feed them.

When a diet lacks protein your body will use the protein from the bodys own tissues ... i.e. leaving muscle to be one of the primary tissues to be sacrificed and you WANT the muscle you already have to burn calories.. a little added muscle WILL help this and NOT cause you to look big & bulky.

A little weight training will do you good aslo maybe a change in the type of cardio you do a few days a week to make you work your butt off (literally) and sweat. :)

My #1 suggestion for you:

Set goals for yourself and put a time limit on them.

Example: The first two weeks, aim to workout 4 times a week for 45 to 60 minutes each.

This keeps you accountable and it also gives you flexibility. If you can go 5 days a week -- you'll exceed your goal and that'd feel GREAT! If you make it 4 days, wonderful.

If you can go 45 minutes without wanting to quit... add on 5 minutes. If you are HURTING ever... STOP and start again the next day.

Many people start off a cardio or training program with or without diet and set goals that are not flexible or are unrealistic and set themselves up for failure. I'm happy to see you're taking the initiative to make yourself a healthier person; good luck and welcome to EF.

Hey girl! I'm trying to lose some weight too, so we can be each other's support lol... But I was looking at the foods you had in mind for your diet and just wanted to add some info that might help:

**Have brown rice (I'm filipino and I know it is weird to switch white rice to brown rice but girl, it keeps you full longer!!)

**Quaker oats are really good for you but have protein with it; try almonds with your oatmeal for satiety

**Have whole wheat bread- Make sure it says 100% whole wheat on the package and when you look at the fiber content, it has at least 3g of fiber listed- this will keep you fuller longer as well.

Do some weight training because muscle helps burn more calories, which will help you lose weight more effectively. If you wanna try a DVD to help you, I Love, love, love turbo jam!!! You can get it at beachbody.com. The DVD set has kickboxing, ab sculpting, and a total body sculpting workout. It's a great program to get you started or a nice change in your workout if you're bored with the same old routine.

Good luck girl and I wanna see your progress!!! :)
