Sopranos actor to stand trial

Teenage Sopranos actor Robert Iler and two friends are to stand trial on robbery charges.
A grand jury has deemed there is enough evidence to prosecute the 16-year-old over an alleged incident on 3 July.
He and three friends are accused of having robbed two teenage Brazilians of $40 (£28) outside a delicatessen in the Upper East Side of New York.
The next stage of the criminal proceedings will see the charges put to the defendants to allow them to enter a formal plea, although no date has been set for this.
A fourth person is being tried through the juvenile courts because he is under the age of 16.
The actor will now have to enter a formal plea
Iler, who plays the son of mob boss Tony Soprano in the HBO series, has already stated his intention to plead not guilty to all the charges against him.
He is charged with second-degree robbery and one count of possession of marijuana.
At an earlier court hearing he was released on bail of $2,500 (£1,782).

Denial
He, along with Michael Cournede, 19, and Alban Selimaj, 16, are said to have approached the victims and ordered them to hand over their money.
The charges allege the victims were threatened and told: "Give us your money. Do you wanna die?"
Iler's lawyers have previously stated the actor had his back turned and neither saw the incident nor heard any demand for money.
Cournede was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, after he was allegedly found to be carrying a craft knife at the time of the incident.
The maximum sentence for the robbery charge is 15 years imprisonment.

He's charged with the Robbery in the Second Degree, a class C felony. On a plea to the charge, the minimum is 3 years incarceration. The maximum is 15 years.
Odds are, a judge will give him a Youthful Offender adjudication with five years probation. A Youthful Offender adjudication is not a criminal conviction.

Supergirl, in New York, no one has to make a decision when they are arraigned on an indictment. Everybody and his uncle always enters a plea of not guilty to an indictment. After the entry of the not-guilty plea, then a defendant can withdraw his not-guilty plea and then enter a plea of guilty.

If I find out what court part he's in, I'll go watch and keep y'all updated.

nycdefender.. it's always a pleasure reading your posts.

always informative.

you should have class once a day on here... how about you post a little law tidbit, like the one above, everyday, and others can ask questions regarding the post.

it'd be great

I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS CASE SINCE ITS INCEPTION A FEW WEEKS AGO. ROBERT SHOULD BE IMMUNE TO THE LAW FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT HE IS ON THE GREATEST SHOW ON TELEVISION. THATS IF HE DID DO IT, WHICH I DONT THINK HE DID. SOMEONE SEES MONEY HERE FOR A BOGUS CHARGE.
