Incline and/or Flat press.....Do you pause between reps?

I am referring to the point at lockout, do you pause for a second, or have continuous motion through your entire set of reps? I find myself pausing roughly 1-2 seconds between reps. I tried a constant motion last night with no pausing even at lockout on incline and man did it kick my ass using the same amount of weight I normally do. I guess this shows a weakness in endurance? It seems as though if you do pause, it might be a good idea to kill some reps without pausing every now and then to get your muscular endurance up.

Interesting question.

When I perform all pressing movements, I keep constant stress on the muscle.. I never pause or lockout, so essentially I am getting a 3/4 range of motion.

It works really well.

I never lockout on any of my pressing movements on chest, tris or legs.

I do pause on pulling movements such as Bi's, traps, lats etc...

This is what I have read puts the most stress on the 2 different types(push/pull) of movements.

Thanks guys. I am going to delete the pause from my chest routine from now on. I could REALLY feel it when I wasn't pausing. I think I have some hidden growth waiting for me....

I don't pause on my chest...but do try to lockout though. With light weights...I sometimes don't lockout. The reps are usually so light and easy...that the lockout is sometimes overlooked...lol.

I use a pause at the top, on my final reps sometimes. I find that pausing at the top near the end of a set and holding the weight at lockout, allows me to blast out a few extra reps I wouldnt normally be able to get at a constant pace.

i would keep continuous motion going on. i've seen that happen a lot at the gyms i go to. my keepin the continuous motion going on you keep the work on the muscles and you protect your joints from excessive locking out. you also find that your stronger this way as well. tb
