I was serious about the first/second degree murder thing though.

What I wrote (see below) is how her lawyer will most likely present her and the case the very same way they do with most cases when "postpartum depression". It's a term that somehow is used so often to excuse the most offensive of crimes.

Someone who can cut off their babies arms, then get a call from the operator and talk to them calmly, and wait for the police to collect them is MENTALLY ILL. There really isn't any other way of saying it.

I hate how they have all these excuses these days. I don't care if you are depressed, mentally ill, psycho, retarded, disabled, fucked in the head, if you kill an innocent person, you should fry or at least rot in prison for life. If she is so mentally ill that she can't understand that cutting off your baby's arms is wrong, then she is obviously a danger to society and should be eliminated. Take note too, that she did this after having extensive psychotherapy.

Who knows what was going on in her head but in other cases (I have to find the one I'm thinking of) the court could view that as pre-meditated even though her suggested and past "mental state" could alter the final charges.

I guess I should also say that yes this woman must mentally ill to to such thing and remain so utter calm and detached about it (seriously how bloddy and horrific would that be?)yet you really can't say how the court could view it.

It would be interesting to see/read what her patient records say from when she was hospitalized early this year.

I think that we can safely assume that this woman was/is insane. There is no way a sane person can do that to their child, and sit there like nothing happened.

this happaned in an apartment complex a couple of miles from where i live.

i heard the 911 phone call she placed shortly after she cut the baby's arms off. she was completely void of emotion...just described that she had cut the baby's arms off and that the baby was in the other room and not breathing. when the cops/EMTs showed up she was still holding the knife and covered in blood.

i think it's safe to say that the woman is completely nuts.
