SCHOOLS BOLDLY STAND-UP againt RACISM.

TheSalami said:

you are a real big proponent for freedom of speech, that is unless its something you find offensive.

I'm an avid supporter of the First Amendment and Free Speech. But what you aren't considering Salami, is that the public school setting is a unique situation.

How does a 10 year old child learn when she looks at the guy sitting in front of her and sees him flashing a symbol of hatred and oppression on his shirt.

The mission of schools is to educate----if that process is interfered with, schools become futile.

so what if it represents oppression for blacks? i dont care if it represents murdering babies you cant just pick and choose what it is you want to censor. what you find offensive other people may not and then you have real conflict.

are you saying someone cant learn because a kid is wearing an offensive shirt? in all my years in school my learning has never been hindered by the clothes of the other kids in class.

I'm not picking and choosing, Salami. I'm very consistent with the appropriate standard for schools to use when it censors speech: If it creates a material disruption, then it should be banned.

What do you think of the Nazi symbol in schools, Salami?

Yes I deny that it is based on MY POINT OF VIEW

I dont know shit about George Wallace as a man except for what I read and hve head from others....The Rebel flag was a representation of the Southern States Rebelling from the Union for what they felt was right and wrong

It's also a flag that the Western Band of Cherokee fought under cause they had last treaties with the southerners unlike their Northern Brethren who pissed on those treaties....It was also the flag that Black slave owners fought under as well...

George Wallace and the KKK didn't fight under that flag and it's Piss ant liberal Crybabies and The Hate Mongrols who fuck it up for the rest of us who are interested in History as it was...Not like the PC assholes want us to think of it as

How do you expect all of us to live peacefully if yownt to descrate(sp?) our history and skew the stories and facts??

Maybe thats because you haven't seen someone else sitting in front of you in class, day after day, wearing a symbol that has been used to literally beat you into submission....

You and I both know that's what the rebel flag really represents.

i think if a kid wants to wear it its up to him. just because you are consistent in what you choose to censor doesnt mean you are right. nothing should be censored.

you cant just ban things because they offend you. as i see it thats the whole reason why there is the first amendment. to protect peoples rights from people like you who think that they can decide what isnt appropriate. its attitudes exactly like yours that the amendment is supposed to protect us from.

You aren't being sincere here TXCollegeGuy. You really find the rebel flag relevant b/c of some treaty with the Cherokees? Come on. You probably find the rebel flag relevant because it represents a crusade. What you're forgetting is that crusade is a lost cause-----the South lost.....thus the rebel flag means DEFEATED RACISM.

The rebel flag represents absolutely nothing positive.

Salami---children have always had their constitutional rights limited.....i.e. they can't vote until 18, curfew laws also limit their rights.

Many constitutional rights don't "kick-in" until adulthood.
