Ive only been deadlifting steady for a year, so Im not even close to hitting a true barrier. For standard deads and rack pulls I only go up to 5 and a quarter on each side though =)

i ve been deadlifting for about 5.5 months now. But i think genetically im built for it. Long arms, big legs, etc.

Sometimes knowledge grits and determination is simply not enough
True. That's where attitude takes over.

And with the kind of defeatist attitude that many people have, they never will see 585 on anything.

I, however, will not put mental limits on myself. Not now. Not ever.

you just have to focus on your form and training revex, if you really want to excel at one thing you have to focus on it. like you hurt your shoulder not tapping out the other day, that put you out of commision for a while, maybe even still. either way it set you back. someone focused will not take a chance on hurting themselves and preventing their goal.

its all about knowledge, guts, and determination.

I get what you are saying here, but I don't think it says anything about knowledge, guts, and determination.... I think your point is more about PRIORITIES... sure when it comes down to it, only knowledge, guts, and determination will get you to your goal, but if you allow other priorities, you can get sidetracked from your goal....

For the record though- to a degree I think a person who puts that same determination/pride into EVERYTHING they do will do better overall than someone who specializes in one area and "wimps out" of others... due to the fact I believe they are a better competitor and have a stronger drive to win...

but I see your point...

People train for decades to deadlift or squat that kind of weight, and people here proclaim they can do it after 2-3 years? Interesting

I hear what you are saying bor, but I think it is possible... also, training, recovery and nutrition knowledge is so much better nowadays, than even 10 years ago... not that the ideas did not exist back then- but that the ideas are widely available to all....

I am seriously considering making a thread on this statement alone. Would you mind?

Its all a matter of perspective. Train at a gym where six plates is a common sight and you will be there before you know it. Train at a gym where 3 plates make you king and it will remain a fantasy.
Like a fish you grow to the size of your tank. I like being a little fish in a big pond.
