What makes a part of town racist just because blacks don't live there? Did you ever stop to think they don't live there because they don't want too? That
You have no clue what it is to be racist. Try being a Jew and living in a predominately white neighborhood of Germans that feel they are the one true race. Oh and being half german didn't help.

In Vidor Tx, they tried (blacks) to move in there and live, and couldn't even with government protection.

Of course, the Civil War was fought over money, but if you read David Herbert Donald's "Lincoln" biography, you'll find that Lincoln was also appauled by what the South had done to the Slaves, and was guided also by a sense of morality.

Thus, there were many many reasons behind the Civil War. But, the symbolism behind the rebel flag has nothing to do with states rights or some Cherokee treaty, the rebel flag is waived around as though the Sun set most beautifully on the South when slaves were beaten into submission.

There is absolutely nothing favorable about that time in this nation's history. The South is doing what is right thing to do-----burying an ugly part of the past, just as the Germans should forget that they once had a "leader" who gased innocent children and women.

I'm a black man that has never really had any jewish friends, but when I see a movie on TV or a documentary about the holocaust I get so damn furious. I will admit it has even made me cry at times. Even to this day, the jewish community faces racism, yet they continue to move forward.

I dont like racism period, that's my point. It's so destructive and ugly. I want to live my life on a higher level. Those of you who choose to hate another man, there is nothing to be said for you. I dont think I will be wasting my time, my mind or heart on hating.

It's obvious in your comments how some of you feel about blacks, what I would like to know is what happened to you personally to give you those opinions and feelings?? Are you just jumping on a bandwagon? Were you raised to be close minded? Or do you hate for no reason? Give a specific answer...and try not to blab out some very uneducated comment that people will just read over and not pay attention to.

A Furby is one of those toy stuffed critters that talks. I started using that term because someone else was offended by what I previously said so I tried to think of a term that couldn't possibly offend anyone.

PLIFTER, I was not offended by your word. It neither hurts nor phases me. If you misunderstood, I will explain again. It was a civil and educated debate going on until you injected negativity. Everyone else had no problems speaking their mind in a civil manner till you came along. If you want to use that word to express yourself, feel free, but I would expect something much better than that if we are to talk about the subject like mature adults.

Contraction---do not worry. For every ignorant member of this board, there is another member who is educated. I think you'll find that most racism is spread from "mom and dad." We aren't born to be racist, people acquire it over time.

Most racists are simply angry b/c they no longer have a false superiority over another class of people. When we are equal, we must work harder on ourselves........many people are afraid to do this, so they spend all of their time on hate...........

Further, why waive a LOSER flag? The South lost, period. Thus, the rebel flag represents a lost cause, defeat, rejection. Why not waive the American flag, a true symbol of our history, a true symbol of equality, a true symbol of victory.......?

Five years ago, tensions began flaring when a white student wore a T-shirt featuring the battle flag that said: "You've got your 'X', I've got mine."

That's pretty cute. How come some people can't see why the confedarate flag is a disgrace to blacks?

It's the same as Jews being offended by the swastika. Yes there were some good points but there is surely nothing to be proud of. What are they so proud of anyway? We kicked their asses.

I was taught racism by racist blacks. I myself wish no harm to come to anyone, but I prefer to remain with my own kind. I wish they would re-segregate the schools and then the blacks can glorify Malcolm Little and the whites can display their Army of Northern Virginia battle flag and noone should feel "beaten down". As for slavery, give me a break. It isn't my fault that somebody's ancestors got their asses kicked and the winner sold thoses asses to slave traders who, unfortunately, sold them here. What was the alternative to slavery for those people? The victorious tribes would have killed them in a blink of an eye. The fact that some blacks think that those white europeans just went into the jungle and began rounding these people up slays me. You were sold out by your own kind, just like we are being sold out now by ours. If I could go back in time, I would sink those damn slave ships before they made it halfway here. Man, the trouble that would've saved!
