Is anyone else constantly injured

Im so friggin sick of being hurt

I kid you not. 2 weeks ago I'm sitting on the couch and stretch only to feel fire shooting in my neck. Pretty freaky but after a few days it feels okay. Yesterday I lifted (as I have done maybe 8-9 times since it happened without problem) totally without any incident but by the end of the session even hypers hurt like a bastard. Now it's like a case of whiplash. Driving in a car hurts, standing up, bending over, raising my arms - neck and posterior chain, anything. Could hardly get out of bed this morning. Had to roll to the side and slip my arm under my head. Called the ortho and took his cancelation for tomorrow as it was that or after the holidays.

I'm real sick of getting hurt. Everything that happens is this flukey shit that sidelines me for lengthy periods. Then just as I wrap up some rehab and get back into the mix a tiny bit, I get a brand new one on top of it. So yeah - I know how you feel man. No matter how careful I am, it just keeps happening. I am officially sick of being hurt.

End vent.

I was reading Practical Programming last night and Rippetoe said something about how if you train hard you will get injured. No way around it.

Not sure if I totally agree but I’m finding it to be true nonetheless.

He does say some interesting things about how ‘rest and it will go away’ isn’t the way to rehab, you need to strengthen the tissue around the injury to compensate. Or something like that.

Bro I also know exactly how you feel. I have minor pains in both my shoulders where you described. Its the tissue but mine are healing. I dont do flat bench presses with a barbell anymore. I find that dumbells for flat presses hammer your chest way more. With the barbell more shoulder work is induced whereas with dumbells way more chest is involved and you can notice a difference. Military presses with a barbell also irritate my shoulders so I found I can do military presses with dumbells heavy and I am just fine. Might want to try that man I also find I get better results with dumbell military press as well. I am more of a bodybuilder type though that trains heavy but not as heavy as power lifting guys. I usually end flat dumbell presses with 110 on each arm for 9 reps and 70 on military presses for about 8-9. My shoulders irritate only if I do these two excersizes with barbells so try that.

Life is an injury. Anything you do is going to eventually wind up in an injury or mishap. Play ping pong long enough and you'll eventually slip or turn the wrong way and get layed up. Drive long enough and you will make a mistake (and if you avoid this long enough you can bet someone else will make a mistake and hit you). The only way out of it is doing nothing or doing an activity infrequently or half assed enough to minimize exposure.

I'd like to add that I'm not only sick of being injured but I'm also sick of being sick of being injured.

Musclelove, start light one week and add slowly and steadily to the bar session to session. I had to start my squats again recently very gingerly squatting with just the bar. I added 2.5Kg (5 lbs) to the bar each session for a 5x5 until I hit 80Kg (176 lbs). Since then I've been adding 5Kg and should be squatting over 300 lbs for 5x5 this week. Sometimes you just have to accept that the body needs help getting back on track and the time to do it. As Madcow mentioned, age doesn't help with these aspects of training.

Another thing to look at is how you bench. Do you flare the elbows?? I ask because ths is the most common cause of shoulder irritation when benching and it gives benching an undeserved bad rap. Try tucking the elbows into your lats if you don't already.

I second this, I had shoulder pain until I started benching properly.

Oddly enough when I first started lifting weights I used to have all sorts of problems with injuries. Now I cannot recall the last time I have had a decent injury (18 months ago maybe?). I am also at the heaviest and strongest I have ever been. I credit a few things to my staying injury free.

1) My form is quite well, and works with my body structure.
2) I do cardio, stretch, and do some active recovery.
3) My diet is rich in EFA's.
4) Genetics may be on my side.
5) Luck. Haha.

So bro, I guess I cannot really sympathize too much, but what I will say is tinker with form, active recovery, and eat lots of EFA's and see what happens.

Come to think of it i do feel better doing presses with dumbells as opposed to a barbell. pain wise atleast. I Did some light lateral raises tonight and didnt feel any pain. I just did enough to get some blood flowing in the area. I believe ill start light with the benches in a bit and see how it works out

Yep Ive had to basically almost start over again. It can be hard when you are used to moving a lot of weight consistantly. Its hard to break the habit escpecially when some young kid who hasnt got an injury yet starts throwin up more than you. What I do to combat this feeling is either go very late at night or very very early in the morning. I am fortunate enough that there arent many freaks where I live so there is almost nobody there which makes it easier to start out with very light weight again.

Nobody likes to get a powerful physique end up with a minor injury and have to start subtracting a lot of weight. You'll be alright bro. Bodybuilding or weight training or lifting whatever you wanna call it aint for the faint of heart thats for damn sure.

man i thought i was alone with this. i just recently got over a back injury after 2 years, and now i think i have a posterior impingement in my ankle. and i got a shoulder problem. the shoulder problem is going away though, and i suggest everyone with anterior shoulder pain to do this:
take a tennis ball lie on the floor. put the tennis ball under your where your teres minor and infraspinatus meet (check it out at wikipedia). if it hurts mostlikely your issue is with your rotator cuff. in this position start doing a rotator cuff movement with your shoulder at 45 degrees. also, you can put the ball just medial to your scapula and do it there. caution this will hurt like a bitch.

i did this for 3 days and the pain is gone.
