i love being able to bounce the bouncers

its definatly the small guys who can cause the most pain, most of the time anyway,my buddy is 6'9 about 120 and is a first degree black belt,im taking kung fu at the moment and he can put me down quick

im desperatly looking for a job bouncing but there are maybe 3-4 places in town that have bouncers and they hire monsters for that intimidation factor, and im pretty sure i could cause just as much if not more damage should the need arise

Told you oak, it's not worth bouncing in this town, the pay is shit, and you get into some seriously dangerous situations. i don't know which places you're talking about that hire monsters though, most of the guys I see are average size.

Being a bouncer has nothing to do with fighting though, as soon as you start trading punches with someone else, you're even more retarded than him as at least he's got the excuse of alcohol for acting like a jackass. Every guy I ever had to go hands on with was the same thing, I took them down in a choke hold, waited till they turned a pretty shade of blue and stopped trying to hurt me, then placed them on the sidewalk outside, that was the end of my job!

the scene has some pretty big guys, fletch and a few others i know

ive heard the stories from lots of guys, but im now unemployed and need cash bad

i see a lot of guys that think they're big, but none that actually are since Rodney quit there, that fucker had a pro physique if I've ever seen one.
Try bilibongs, almost every one working there is average size, and none are any good either so it couldn't be too hard getting a job there, hell, every time we (dissto and I) go in there they offer us a job

Rodney is in amazing shape and natty to,thats just nuts, billabongs looks like a decent place, ill definatly try there, thanks

natural my ass, he's just not into it heavy like when he was competing, but when he was, his proportions were very close to flex wheeler but about 6 inches taller

I have bounced for alot of years....when I was younger, it was all about being a bad ass, until I had my fucking teeth kicked in....over the years I have learned that earning the patrons respect goes a long way...they actually come up to me and let me know when two idiots are about to get it on, they go out the door before it ever happens if I can help it....

If a guy is being a problem, 5 Bouncers in our club go over, then I politely let him know it's time to go outside...they generally comply...once outside if he's cool with me, he gets a warning and admitted back into the club, if he's a dick...thank you sir/ma'mam and have a good night...they're gone....

I let people know up front, 99% come in to drink, dance and hook up...the other 1% is looking to throw down...you have to decide, I get paid whether you do or don't....Are you gonna be in the 99% crowd, or the 1% crowd??

The best advise I can give someone new at bouncing....Be quitely confident...don't boast, brag or show all the Kung Fu moves you saw in the latest Steven Segal flick.....

If they cuss you, big fucking deal, threaten you...who cares...if they get physical...then it's on...play for keeps, be quick, and use submission holds...works much better and safer for the old body in the long run....

I must concur though on the small guys....Most I have dealt with, once they get a gut full of "Warrior Juice" they have a 130 pound body, with a 300 pound attitude....that doesn't mix....

Every cop that comes into our club, pays nothing, if they are working and in the lot as we close, I talk with them, they know me, I know them, if the shit goes down, they're gonna back you, as you will them....

Yes, I am 6'4 at around 240, but a good easy attitude will carry alot more weight with a fuck head than size....and you're only as good as the bouncers who cover your back....I work with a good group at my club, and we all work major festivals together...it's a nice deal.....

Good Luck to all those who venture into it....after a year, you'll see some wild ass shit...good and bad....<wink>

Exactly.......

What a lot of guys don't get is that being a bouncer doesn't give you shit in the way of authority, you smack somebody down without a good enough reason, it's your ass in jail. Your job is to get them out the door when they're out of line, that's it!

I worked at a place with a great crew, you're in eye contact with at least 4 guys at all times, so as soon as one guy is gone from his post, 7 or 8 guys converge on that spot to keep you safe. But all it takes is one tough guy bouncer in the mix and he puts all the doormen at risk because you have to back him up no matter how dumb he is.

Some years ago, I was at a bar with a buddy of mine, and we ended up in an altercation with the staff.
It was stupid, we might have deserved to get booted (arguable, my friend called a server a fag, or something)
Next thing I know, the DJ is insulting us over the P.A., and a group of guys came over to challenge us. Some puke knocked my beer out of my hand, so I shoved him, the two hand kind, and they backed off. Now the bouncers come in, to bounce us, I imagine, and we were leaving without further incident, and for some reason, the head bouncer, or whatever he was, jumped on my friend, and put him in the bouncer headlock. For whatever reason, they left me alone, and had a Kitchen Staffer escort me out the back stairs.
The Bouncer threw my buddy out while I was still inside, and my friend was severely pissed. Let's just say the guy had issues. Anyway, in his new state of freedom, he was able to fight the bouncer freely, and he pummeled him. It took me and the kitchen guy to pull him off.

In my opinion, the bar made the following mistakes:

1) having the dj basically incite a riot.
2) jumping my buddy after we were already leaving in peace
3) sending 1 bouncer with 1 kitchen guy to escort us out the back way. Maybe they didn't want to leave the bar unnatended, or something, or they had complete confidence in their head bouncer.
I will say this, that kitchen guy had stones. He jumped on my buddy, who had just flattened a guy easily twice his size. My buddy was like 6'2, and probably close to 225 lbs. I am the same height, but weighed 196 or so at the time.

Basically, there was no need to put my friend in the "bouncer hold" and they are lucky that I'm nice enough, and smart enough to diffuse the situation. It was incredibly bad judgement sending 1 meathead, and an untrained staffer. I could have easily made the situation worse, is all I'm saying.

All that being said, I have a lot more respect for bouncers now than I used to. But, bouncers have to recognize that if you put yourself in the position of authority, you WILL be challenged. My only advice would be to not let your ego trump your brain, and never allow yourself to be outnumbered.

I'd say that the vast majority of bouncers are good guys, but the guys who walk around like peacocks are inviting trouble, in my opinion. You can't intimidate, or reason with a drunk man.

The best bouncers are the ones that prevent trouble, so they don't have to react to it.

I know it can't always be done, but violence should always be a last resort.

As for the size issue, the toughest, scariest guy I have ever met is 5'10 if he's lucky, and 165 soaking wet.

I will have to say that being a bouncer was good way to make some cash while in college. It was a pretty easy job. Most of the time we just hung out. Talked to a lot of the people in the bar. We only had a serious problem once every few weeks. But for the most part we kept the place peaceful.

You just need to prevent problems before they happen. If you noticed people who are gettin ready to fight you need to get them out of the bar. Basically diffuse the situation. The most important thing you can have is good guys to work with. Even if you are 6 foot and 250 someone is going to want to challenge you. If there are 8 of you at that size there aren't to many people that will want to challenge all of you. If they do it is an easy problem for 8 guys to deal.

If I were a college student I would definatley do it again. Decent money and it didn't interfere with my school schedule.
