It appears that your a firefighter. So when your not fighting fires what does your daily routine look like? Do you get to sleep, workout, eat, and get paid for it?

5:15 - wake up, morning run
5:45 - shower, get dressed
6:15 - leave the house for work by 7:00; usually there by 6:30
7:00 - 8:30 sit around and read the paper and talk to the day before shift
8:30 - since im a driver, i check the truck off, sweep and mop the bay
9:30 - 1:30 - chores then sit around and watch TV, talk with visitors/friends
1:30 - 4:00 - Training; Driver training, Firefighting training - no live fire training
4:00 - 7 AM - free time / nap time / sometimes evening cardio

We do alot more than this, but I am at a slower station and we get more "free time" than most stations.

But when we get a call - it is full throttle. I challenge anyone to 15 minutes of actual firefighting. I freaking love it. And love showing it.

You check the truck AND sweep the bay!?!?!?!??
I think our bay got swept, once. Since then, the boss has been taking his meds.
Do you have medics at your station or are you a non ALS crew?
Plus, don't forget the billion hours of cleanup after a fire. Hose work is a bitch.

:) yes I check the full inventory of the truck every morning and make sure the truck is 100% in-service, then sweep (use a leaf blower) and mop the bay.

I work every 3rd day. 10 days per month. 24 hours on and 48 hours off.

Every Firefighter is a NPQ 1 certified and EMT- (I)ntermediate. We dont provide Advance life, because normally within 5-10 minutes (sooner depending on if it is priority 1 or 2) an Wambulance is there. In bad cases the Airmeds come out in their little helicopter.

We carry a jumpbag with the basics: Oxygen tank, all the plumbing - nasal cannulars, non rebreathers, combitubes, etc. Plus all the bandages, wraps, etc.

Also an AED, and suction unit for the chokers.

As far as fire clean up.... We normally have atleast 2 engines, 1 ariel truck, 1 rescue truck, a battlian unit and a dozen volunteers show up at a structure fire. So that helps out with clean up for sure.

I'm always working in a sense, but honestly I probably actually "work" 6 hours a week. Everything else is networking and getting business. I guess that's work too, but it doesn't feel like it.

Actually, sounds kinda cool. I'm a fire/medic and we are ALWAYS understaffed and getting our asses kicked. It sux. I usually work on the ambulance. I feel sorry for our fire guys. They actually get more sleep than I do because I mostly respond to medical calls and they mostly respond to fires. I go to a TON more calls.... but when they get a fire, they get their asses handed to them.
