G5.0 vs. Gravity: The Neurotic Ramblings of a Man on a Mission

I hated that.. 2 steps forward, 2 steps back.. going back to struggling with 405 for 5 was the worst part about coming off for me.

form geek :D
What really sucks is that I thought I was 'out of the woods'. Oh well. I'm still a ton stronger than before, esp my dead. I got 500 a full month afterward, and 455 was quite a ways off from max when I pulled it last week. So it's not all bad. But damn - I almost feel like I can't say that I squat 500+ :(

I think I wll anyway ;)

I'm pretty sure from the numbers you've been posting that you have lost some strength over the past couple of months but are you sure that it wasn't simply an off-day?

Just keep progressing, there's not much else you can do. If you keep doing Westside then you can be testing your maxes across the board soon enough.

I've been doing some thinking, and I don't think I've allowed for adequate recovery at any point during my training since my drug cycle. I think that may be a huge part of why I don't feel like my squat is where it was.

I may take a week completely away from the weights after this light week and come back to a milder run. My hams/glutes have been fatigued for months now - I can't even remember what it feels like to approach a squat workout totally 'fresh'. So perhaps my strength is just a few off days away :)

I'll make the determination of whether to take a full week off at the end of this week. The fact that I'm currently deloading without much fatigue may eliminate the need for a weight-free week. When I go at it again, I'm gonna do something fairly simple, like:

M- Squat workout, perhaps working to 3 sets of 5, steady weight. Also, a press and a row/pull

W- some sort of DE lower body movement, a press and a row/pull

F- A dead session (sets/reps to be determined, but low volume) and a press and row/pull.

So 'lower body' would get one medium/light/heavy day, respectively, per week. I'd ramp weekly and possibly run an intensity phase. I'd do a similar setup on the pressing/pulling. I wanna incorporate some dips and some inclines, just 'cause ;)

I've had an enthusiasm for the gym this week after taking six days out that I've not felt for a while. I notice the difference in approaching the lifts feeling genuinely fresh.

A change of pace might be needed to get some decent recovery under your belt before pushing hard again. Have you considered a run of the Korte volume phase?

Deload
Week 4 -- Thursday

Deads
Played with sumos up to 315, then switched to conventional and did two singles w/ 405

Dips
warmups, then BW+105 x5x2

-I like dips :)

Pendlay Rows
worked up to a triple w/ 275

Barely got the triple, which shouldn't have been much trouble. Dammit.

I got the call that I was hired right when I got to the gym, so my head wasn't really in this workout. I move to Grand Rapids tomorrow and I start Monday - things are bit of a whirlwind right now :)

Congrats on the new job G5.0. I take it you're getting settled now and gym time will be hard to come by. Hope it all goes well.

Yikes. Good stuff.

Hey people. I've been pretty busy, and for work I'n training, which means I sit in front of a computer, reading and taking these stupid tests all day, so coming home and sitting in front of the computer is not high on my list of things to do at the moment :p

I trained on monday, deload style, and I took the rest of the week off. I have not gotten enough sleep, my eating has been inadequate, and I'm a bit stressed out so I'm gonna get back at it next week.

Cheers!
