G5.0 vs. Gravity: The Neurotic Ramblings of a Man on a Mission

I'm fine with the supplement thing, but the oddball British humor has got to go ;)
Well, WW asked for everyone's thoughts and since she didn't offer a penny, I threw in my two cents.

Most of the criticisms in the literature are of the claims that Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate are a panacea for severe osteoarthritis, which nobody here is claiming. There are plenty of studies in support of their efficacy for less severe cases, and a lot of anecdotal evidence for prophylactic use. Some of these studies were done on non-human animals, which avoids the confounding problem of the placebo effect that makes some human studies dubious.

EDIT: Unless Guinness indicates otherwise, I'm going to assume he's heard (more than) enough on this topic.

CS and other nutrition nerds (:D) :

I was just looking at the nutrition label on a carton of eggs, and each egg contains 0.5 grams polyunsaturated fat. I eat a minimum of 6 eggs a day (and often a full dozen) so do you think I've got omega 3's covered?

Omega-3s are a subset of polyunsaturated fats, so just looking for that type of fat isn't enough: almost none of the poly. fat in regular eggs is omega-3. "Omega-3 eggs" are sold in quite a few places, but there's not enough in each egg to make it a practical choice. A better (and tastier) option would be an 8-ounce serving of salmon per day, which would put you in good shape.

BTW, since you asked about its benefits in that cardio thread, are you actually thinking about adding a bit of cardio? ;)

Nope. Just curious. If I get a dog I'll start doing cardio, but not for the sake of cardio.

Are avocados a decent source of omega 3's? Is it only seafood that's really stocked with 'em? You seem to be the 'linkmaster' :D so do you know of a list of omega 3 sources?

I'm not anti-salmon by ANY stretch, but I live (<---NOT a typo for 'love') to eat and I like variety, so the more stuff I have to choose from, the better.

No on the avocados.

I actually didn't have anything bookmarked on the omega-3 content of foods since I just decided caps would be an easier option. But if you want to go the diet route, here's something that would provide a few choices if you wanted to try different types of fish.

Alternately, you could eat a bunch of algae and plankton, which is where the fish are getting the stuff. :p
