Bench Press? Impossible?

No sense going back and forth on this. Likewise, some people will have a maximum that is over the norm for the same test. Depending if it's 70%, 80%, or 90% of max there's still going to be a significant range in numbers among the same people in a group. Everyone's just put together differently.

I agree there is going to be a significant range. I was just saying that was by far the largest diference I had seen for a bp. I was hoping for the type of input that you and future have given. FOr some reason Dave just wants to ask rhetorical questions over and over and get pissed when you answer them.

If he wants to pull that shit with a newbie thats one thing but I see no need to treat members that have been around for years in that manner. JMO

. I don't think I've ever known anyone (specifically) that could hit 225 for 26 reps (much less 36) and not get 445..
I can hit 225 for 26-28 reps and my max is around 400. Some people are more slow twitch and some are fast twitch. Some have good tendons and some (like me) have bad tendons.

Thanks for the post. I think my problem was trying to cast "rules" on weightlifting in general. Obviously most of the lifters I have been around have been focused on heavy lifting and there has also been focus on tendon health. Again, thanks for hte input.

I would have been much better off if I had focused on tendon health versus all out power. I can also hit 315 x 12 and 365 x 5 or 6 but anything heavier and my elbows take a shit. Very frustrating!

I'm fortunate that I have the friend I mentioned earlier. The guy is excellent with general tendon health/strength as well as therapy/repair.

I watched a national level discus thrower training at a UK leading weightroom.

Huge black guy, 260lbs at 5'10" nearly all muscle, shoulders and back super-broad.

He did power cleans - doubles, quickly working up from 80kg in 10kg increments up to 150kg where he did one rep. I then watched him fail on 160kg for a single 3 times. He showed obvious frustration and was doing everything he could but couldn't powerclean 160kg. He then striped down to 140kg and confidently did a great set of 8 reps.

I guess ur form might come into play, if ur jus bouncing em of ur chest u might sqeeze out a extra 5 reps

Not in my case, my form is very slow and controlled, even slower the heavier I go. Tendon and ligament health is crucial, unfortunately I never realized that until I got in my 30's.
