Anyone successfully quit nicotine?

I have terrible self restraint but know that sooner or later I'm going to have to quit this, so it might as well be sooner, but how the hell do you pull it off? I go 2 hours without nicotine and I become pissed off. Is it better to try and quit cold turkey or using something such as the patch/nicorette and taper off? How long after you had stopped did you stop getting the 'cravings?'

Humm, well I've always been a light smoker. I've never really had cravings before -- I just enjoy the taste and the buzz.

If withdrawl is really bad, talk to your doc. There's some good perscription meds out there that can help.

Not trying to discourage you, but my dad quit smoking 30 years ago. He says he still gets the occasional craving. So who knows....

My coworker quit cold turkey from 2-3pack/day. He hasn´t smoked since the middle of 70s. He says if he´d just taste it one more time he´d be caught again.

well cigarettes aren't as easy to quit as something like heroin, however it can be done... the only way to do it is to stop cold turkey... because an addict doesn't actually stop being addicted they just basically opt not to rely on the crutch they have become dependant upon. When my mother passed away I ballooned backed up to 248 lbs and i was smoking again and drinking, eating crappy etc.... I have now changed everything but the cigarettes.... because once an addict always an addict.

Imagine if someone said that you could bno longer lift weights.... anything can be an addiction.

Depends on the individual. Myself, it took 3 x to quite for good. I smoked for 3 years. My wife could smoke a pack of cigarettes tomorrow and never touch them again and not really be bothered by any withdrawal.

I quit cold. You have to really want to. I chewed tons of sugarless bubblegum to help get through so far its been 7 1/2 years. At the time I was smoking about 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day.

I smoked for about 8 years. I've been smoke free for almost a year. If I can do it you can. The first week is tough, after that you're scott free. It's a matter of being stubborn. Plus you'll get better results in the gym, at least I did. And you'll save money.

However I still get cravings once in a blue moon, but I know if I smoke just one cigarette, I'll start it up again full time. I'm a nicotine addict.

I did it cold turkey

, and thats it

I only smoked for a year though..........things like this have been easy for me though........

My friend quit cold turkey several months ago and hasn't had a cigarette since. You just have to do it without thinking. There's nothing to "think" about.

In his case it was basically like this.

Him for weeks: "Time for smoke break."
Me for weeks: *Harass him about being a loser for smoking so much*

Then, one day.

Him: "Smoke break"
Me: "Loser"
Him: "Loser?"
Me: "Wuss... you're addicted."
Him: "Oh yeah?"
Me: "Yeah"
Him: "OK, watch this. I quit."

And he actually did. I was surprised and impressed to say the least.
