Anyone know how toxic VIOXX is on your liver?

Just wondering, cause I have a semi-high liver enzyme count. I am cycle-free right now, but I do drink a shit load of booze. And I would like to get my liver in better shape before I hit up any special sauce.... Anyone know just how toxic Vioxx, or other NSAIDS (motrin, etc) are compartively to Alcohol, AAS, etc.... Thanks!

What's up bro. I'm on 25mgs a day of vioxx for my elbows and shoulder. I had the same concerns you did, I also drink alot on weekends. Fortunately, my best friends works for merck and call on vioxx. So I asked him and he said there is no reports of any adverse affects on the liver. He told me that he personally wouldn't recommend drinking on any meds, but that is his personal opinion. If you are concerned about you liver levels, just get them checked. How is the vioxx working for you? My elbows are a little better, not much, but my shoulder is 100% better, finally can do light shoulders after not touching them for about 8 months. later

yes it is toxic, both alcohol and NSAID's go through the same metabolic pathway as far as beaking down by the liver, so too much of one will make the other cause damage, viox is COX 2 inhibitor same as motrin but a lot more selective don't take it if you drink or have high liver values, start on milk thistle, ala, NAC..

I am taking 50 -75mg ed of vioxx for a torn miniscus in my R knee....also a couple Lorcet 7.5s/day and the trainers are always on me not to drink and take other/more pills..they say for my stomach though, as well as my liver...which one takes the most damage?

as a previous heavy user of anti-inflammatories like vioxx, motrin, and celebrex, i can tell you that your kidneys are at the most risk of trouble, followed by your stomach(ulcers), and then your liver. personally after much research and consulting with my doctor, i have permanently dicontinued their use. I have found that either a pain medicine without tylenol or ibuprofren, Ultram (non-narcotic pain med), naproxem sodium(aleve), or just plain aspirin are the safest and most effective treatments for most injuries and pains.

Just for your info, more people die every year from complications related to NSAID's than from all other medications combined, and from alchohol, illegal drug, and violent crime deaths combined.

50 mg.

It was resently released that males should not take
50 mg of vioxx or more for longer than 5 days. It can
cause heart attacks.

Hey guys,

Glad we got different viewpoints here. I have taken 25mg VIOXX for some time for my elbow, and now I take it every few days for my shoulder. The shit works wonders. I do drink a lot, and got blood work done and it showed my liver enzmyes to be "slightly" elevated. Nothing too serious, but it shows my liver is working out toxins. I try to kick the Vioxx, but the stuff's damn addicting!

Anyways, I do think it can cause stomach problems. When I took it religiously I would get stomach aches and whatnot all the time. I think the best alternative is just to get off the shit all together... Maybee a little DECA will do the trick!!! :p
