Many of the guys will admit that they at least partially weight train to look good to the opposite sex....of course this is now the "I am woman, hear me roar!" age so it may or may something you ladies would admit to, but now you can anonymously in my poll. =) Its really a question of curiosity for myself btw

None of the above.

I workout because I go insane if I don't - I mean, uh, MORE insane! It's primarily for my mental health (the stress relief & because I truely LOVE it), second for looks & lastly for health.

I don't know why I train. I just try to feed the animal inside of me.

I train because I fuckin love it. I'm not coordinated enough to be graceful (like in aerobics...LOL!) so the power moves work well for me. Plus I'm good at it and its SUCH a stress relief for me and I'm most comfortable in that environment. I like to see the improvements in my lifts or whatever as well. My body responds well to lifting.

Secondly I do it because of health reasons -- the studies I've seen about the increases in muscle and bone mass in sedentary old people in nursing homes after lifting soup cans for a while has me convinced of the benefits of resistance training.

And at about the same level of importance is how I look. I've always had the extra 10 lbs on me so its a dream of mine to get rid of it. And god knows I'm not getting any younger so its not going to be easier to get rid of.

And finally I just want to be a healthy oldster when I get there. I don't want a shitty quality of life because I hit 50 and I can't walk very far any more. I want to be fuckin doin squats when i'm 70 and riding a Harley wearing leathers & listening to old heavy metal. I'm gonna need some strength in order to just be able to sit up by myself and not drool at that age :)

I'm with you. I have seen what aging does to people and it's not always pretty! I used to work out more for looks and to attract the opposite sex but now its more for health reasons and to get out some aggression and to let my competitive edge come out when I am outlifting every girl in the gym! Not that anyone else
CARES what I lift but it sure is fun for me! It's fun to step on stage and let it all shine every once in a while too.

Sorry Frackal but I cannot pick one category in your pole unless you create a new one that just says "Because I am fuckin crazy!" hehehe

So I can hang out at Elite and make arbitrary, trolling type posts to piss people off.

No, really, because it gives me a huge thrill to be in control of the way my body looks and feels. I like being strong and big. I don't want a hip fracture from tripping over the rug when I'm 60. Because I need a healthy channel for my obsessive nature. And because, BECAUSE of my obsessive nature, I seem to be reasonably good at it, and it's always nice when one finds something one is good at, isn't it? :D

1. Vanity - I love muscle and I love watching my body change for the better.
2. Mental health - if I don't do cardio I get stressed out. If I don't lift I have a short temper.
