My house got robbed last night while I was home

I am really frightened now that they might come back. I live in a 2 story townhouse in a large complex. It's not in the ghetto. I'm in white ass suburbia. The county sheriff deputy that showed up to investigate told me that he's been working this end of the county for 15 years and he has never been called to my townhouse complex for even a petty crime or even a noise complaint. In fact there's a city cop that lives in the building next to mine and he parks his cop car in front of the place at night.

Nothing was taken from upstairs. My AC was broken so I was sleeping bare ass naked with no blankets and the bedroom door wide open. Being naked, they obviously would see that I was unarmed. There are 2 bedrooms on the second floor. One is my office and den, the other being the bedroom. I'm afraid that they may have gone upstairs and saw what I have in my bedroom and office. I have a collection of sports memorbilia that's worth about $15,000. These are small expensive items that can't be traced. A few examples of the things I have on display are a Mickey Mantle autographed baseball that's certified authentic by Upper Deck. Retail on that will run $500-$700 and that can be carried out in a pocket. Then I have a fancy display case of some baseball cards hanging on the wall. Even someone with no knowledge of baseball cards would look at the fancy case and know that they are likely worth some $$$. That case only has 18 cards in it but the combined retail value is over $6,000. There's a 1933 Babe Ruth card in outstanding condition that would fetch $3,000-$4000 at an auction.

I think I'm going to get a Brinks or ADT system if the landlord will allow it. I'm also going to get a gun too. I almost feel like I've been raped. It's such a creepy violation of my personal safety. When I go to bed I always leave the lights on downstairs. They popped out a window to enter but they had no way of knowing if someone was awake until they actually entered. That makes me think they were armed. That's just way too bold to do without a weapon. Last night I slept with my bedroom door locked and a Louisville Slugger wood bat by my bed. I play baseball so I can swing a bat pretty hard. This blows. I don't even know how long it's going to take to get my TV replaced. I also feel like I let the family down by losing the video of my sister's baby. The poor little baby almost died at 7 days old and he spent 6 weeks in the hospital. Now he's all healthy and we had some good video of him acting happy and cute and it's gone.

I can totally relate to the way you feel violated. I also dont live in the ghetto and the intruders came back. I also live in the suburbs. I still have a hard time coming home during the day without feeling creepy. They went through my whole house, and I still to this day dont know if Im sure of everything they took. Hopefully your landlord will allow you to install a security system, mine is wireless from ADT so it wasnt a big deal or time consuming or expensive to install. I hope you get it installed soon and you can have some peace at night. The 35 dollars a month for monitoring is worth having some peace.

YOu can still buy the gun too. But the system will at least give you some peace of mind to be able to sleep at night. If they break in you know the cops are on their way. The gun can be your last resort if the alarm does not stop them before the police get there.

Good luck.

Its a fucked up world. I HATE people who steal and violently break into your home , your sanctuary, and steal. Its disgusting.

if you get the ADT system, get the phone line they install. this way, no matter what the burglars do or if the power goes out, the system is always on. it adds like $10 a month i think but this way smart burglars cant deactivate the system in anyway from the outside of the home.

I keep seeing an unwarranted assumption from the anti-gun people. They claim that having a gun makes you more likely to get killed by a burglar. It's as if they assume that the burglar wont just kill you if you are either sleeping or take a posture of passivity and just let them make off with your stuff. As if you need to draw a weapon before the violent tendency of the burglar springs to life.

I did buy a brand new gun today. I couldn't believe the prices on the quality brand names. However my sole intention for the gun is to protect my life so I got the best I could afford. I got a Taurus .38 special snub nose revolver. Revolvers never jam and are very easy to use so I can't fuck up and forget how to work my gun in the middle of a traumatic situation. I also told the gun dealer to give me a box of the most lethal ammo he had. He gave me a box of hollow points with lines indented at the tip of the bullet so that it will maximize expansion.

How much did that run you? I own a .38 with a longer barrel and I still can barely hit shit w/ it compared to my 9mm. I understand the simplicity/reliability reason though. Check my gallery for a pic of the .38 special.

it's a great assumption; i don't see why anyone would think otherwise. people commit a burglary to acquire stuffz, not to hurt people. Killing/shooting someone would cause your chances of getting caught to skyrocket, plus most people don't want to take a life or endanger their life by introducing violence.

but if your victim threatens your life then you have to fight back to stay alive, even if your initial intent was just to rob. that is why most people are better off not pulling a gun imo

I paid $400 plus $24 in tax. It came to a total of $450 with the box of ammo. I didn't have money for anything with a longer barrel. This gun is really just for shooting a person at a distance of 20-25 feet at most. I DEFINITELY feel more secure with it so I think it was worth the price simply in relieving some anxiety and fear.
