Contracting the muscle

when you are working out is it necessary to always contract the muscle at the peak. Meaning do I have to squeeze really really hard and then slowly release back down when I am resistance training
can you explain to me the science of why you believe or not believe this

If you can yes. But it's very hard to do long term. Try the last set only

the idea behind weight training is to break up those muscle fibers and also condition the muscles

but you also have to factor in proper form to prevent injuries and to lift with your muscles, not with your joints if that makes sense.

so yes drop sets and contracting the muscle is a good idea

Actually the eccentric portion results in greater hypertrophy and you can lift20-30% more. That’s not to say that you should only focus on the eccentric portion
