Whats the longest time away from the gym before you start looking like shit?

I've usually lost 2-3 lbs by the time I get to the car.

i took a month off due to injury and at the end of the month i hadnt lost a pound, i was leaner than before, and i walked into gym and hit prs in bench squat and deadlift. maybe i am just weird. but it seems the less i lift the more i gain. everytime i take a week or 2 off i come back with a big pr. i am down right now from 2 bad rotator cuffs one from lifting one from snowboarding. this may take a while so maybe this theory of mine will keep up if not ah well. its always easy to get back to where u were before. ;)

Someone seems to think being in the gym makes you look less like shit.

Do you use those circus mirrors?

before today i had been in the gym 4 times in the past two weeks due to being out of town for christmas and then sick for the week of new years. i can definitely see a loss in size. i've never been one of those people who can take a week or two off and come back stronger than ever. time off is bye bye gains. :/

agreed. usually if i take two weeks off i notice my strength starts to go down a bit. size takes significantly longer though.

Sounds like Oreo is overtraining and SSME is not.

I can come back very refreshed and strong after a week off.

This is so fucking true, that its almost depressing! I didn't go to gym for a month or so, decided to check it...just to meet up with some old friends. I hit the military press, before I could do 145 lbs for 4 reps clean, now I can bearly do 125 for 5 reps:(:(! And the sorness is freaking unbelievable, the next day I couldn't lift my arms, and couldn't turn my neck sideways. So if you are going to gym have a long hiatus, don't go all hardcore the first day. Otherwise you will be regreating it the next day.

It all depends on what shape you are in when you quit. If you just competed in the Mr. O, you can take a few weeks off and actually get stronger without training just from restoring your glycogen and fat levels. If you are just the average in shape gym rat, after two weeks the deterioration speeds up a good deal.
