Tell me something they call a sport that you feel is not a sport.

I can win a game of backgammon which has a quantifiable outcome measure....doesn't mean it's a "sport". Race car drivers are no joke, please no one think that I'm scoffing at what they do. It's fucking hard...but it isn't sport. I would "like" to say that if it isn't in the olympics than it's not a sport....but considering what the IOC is passing off for sport nowadays..:whatever:

And I still say that even given the cockpit temperatures....race car driving is WAY WAY WAY more mental than it is physical. The cockpit conditions are easy to get used to. But to keep your mental clarity pin point focus for 4 hours doing 180+mph....that's where they seperate themselves. I would classify race car driving as almost more of an intellectual endeavor not too far off from something like chess.....except with your hair on fire.

ooops. My bad. Yeah, and you do have a solid point. One that I've been trying to discern to help T getting her NPC/IFBB pro card.

The judging criteria and what they look for is not consistent from region to region. The ratio of balance vs size, and aesthetic appeal, and the definition of 'stage presence' are hard to quantify objectively. You also have politics come into play.

That's why exhibition sports and the question of integrity and authenticity are more on the line.

i guess in my mind, the whole "judging" aspect turns it into more of an art form (not that there's anything wrong with that) than a sport...but "sports" like boxing, that have judges, but where you can get d-e-a-d at the hands of your opponent during the event?? well, that aspect kinda trumps the whole "judging" thing and drags it back across the "sport" line...pretty decisively too...again, just my humble opinion.

uh...competitive bike racing is not a sport?

you retarded?

that's like saying track is not a sport. except track is nothing compared to something like tour de france. that requires ridiculous endurance and athletic ability.

that shit is hardcore.

Cross country running could probably be considered a sport too. it's not as exciting as olympic track, but it's the same premise..just more boring and longer.

I will say this about NASCAR, I have had my Z06 Vette up to 177MPH on a straight open highway the fastest i've even gone in my life and it was still climbing, My face was tingling, telephone poles were going by at a 45 degree angle, the two lane higheay shrunk to the width of a single lane this whole ordeal probably lasted 30-40 seconds, after i got back down to 55 i felt like i was almost stopped in the highway, then fatique set in i was exhausted if felt like i have been working 2 days with no sleep,so don't tell me those drivers running over 180 MPH with cars 2-3 inches on their bumper ,and dodging spin outs isn't stressful.

Anyone who hasn't gone all the way down to the fence wouldn't understand that.

Here's something everyone should try. During a NASCAR race, walk all the way down to the fence where the cars are whizzing by. Then notice the change in speed, micro adjustments and posturing that takes place. You'd have to be a good athlete to pull that off for hours at a time.

Yeah I agree.
Basically, Sports are more of 'doing' or capacitything.
Still an event, but not quite a sport in that sense.

However, they are still athletes.

Good post.
I agree completely.
Never been to a Nascar event. However, just commons sense, I think most peeps would crapthemselves and then wreck, much less make micro adjustments.
