Sarge's Lifting Chronicles 2006-2007

Re: Sarge hits the 5x5 for Ginormous Soleus Muscles!! - Log

BiggT i'm still working around some serious imbalance issues... I'd do full ROM standard lifts if I could. No GM's for me right now. My lower back is actually locked up at the momment... no pain... just tight and locked... i have lots of painful stretching to do.

I'm doing 90* Rows for the 15 rep weeks, i'll deweight them (Pendlay) in the lower rep weeks 10's and 5's... it's just to damn taxing to deweight 15 reps in a row.

RomDL and GP rows are on the docket no doubt :)

It's encouraged to changed exercise lifts from mesocycle to mesocyle but I think i'll keep the "main" lifts... but I may go back to CGBP in the lower reps to see how I do with that after some deloading.

I edited a little bit too, lol.....I forgot to mention t bar corner rows...but forget about the gm's then in that case.......I try to keep this on the down low also, but there's nothing wrong with chest supported rows either

Re: Sarge hits the 5x5 for Ginormous Soleus Muscles!! - Log

and....I should have said, Sumo deads are okay if you're injured and really want to dead.....still, I think chest supported rows are a better lift than them for that matter.....I think sumo DLs should be banned as a massacre on the greatest lift of all time, but that's just me, lol

Re: Sarge hits the 5x5 for Ginormous Soleus Muscles!! - Log

Shhhh... don't tell anyone about the chest supported rows. lol.

I've pushed them when I couldn't do GP Rows recently ... but I have enough flexability again to do GP rows... so I should do them, right?

I'm not program searching at all, I want to tinker in the higher reps with a plan and HST seemed to be the route I need to take.

Keep in mind i'm still dieting/cutting/eating like a figure competitor and I think overall the past 8 weeks I put on 5lbs onto my CGBP, lol... cutting sucks.

I'm in this for aesthetics right now... i'll get back to strength in a few months/ the 5 rep cycle in HST... i may add a 3 rep cycle instead of the negative cycle after that.

lol, I like them... they don't put me in traction for a week.

If I could RegDL like I used to it'd be awesome.... I want to show up my 405x2 @ 190lbs some day.... and that was untrained.

It's not just you. :chomp:

Sarge, to be honest I've been thinking the same thing as BiggT since you mentioned your decision to switch to HST. It's frustrating not to be able to progress at the rate you'd like while cutting, but moving to a program where you switch rep ranges every couple weeks just seems like a way to mask that slow/lack of progress. If you want to do some higher-rep work as a break from the heavier stuff and for the metabolic benefits, you could add a day or two of 15- or 10-reppers while keeping a couple lower-rep days earlier in the week that will drive progress on the higher-rep stuff.

oh jeeze... the colition is turning against me, LOL.

I'm going to ride this out, my mind is made up

My joints will appreciate the higher rep stuff too...

Re: Sarge hits the 5x5 for Ginormous Soleus Muscles!! - Log

Why do people think 'joints' like 'high reps'. That is silliness. Joints only understand 'load' IMO. So low reps, high reps, doesn't matter. Just keep them under the proper load and they will recover.

+1 for the coalition

HiDn: Great, thanks for the reference. You like doing the 5 reps like that? Have you tried fully deweighting them?

AL: No hyper like that. We have the little one that you do the opposite of basically... bring ur upper body way down and back up.

DZLS: Welcome back man!! It's been a loooong time :) Training isn't going right now, i'm deloading ('cept for last nights test workout to find my 15RM's)... i hit a brick wall of overtraining like a mutha. 5x5 was fun and put on some good mass since September... time to play in the high reps with HST for a bit now.
I have a love hate relationship with RDeads, LOL. I deweight every rep. Just started doing that about 3 months ago.

Re: Sarge hits the 5x5 for Ginormous Soleus Muscles!! - Log

Al mentioned earlier that his body underwent some serious week to week changing doing high rep stuff, right?

So I don't think it should hurt Sarge to give HST a try... he might even experience a lot of hypertrophy which is the theoretical point of the program, no?

And at the very least, if it sucks, he'll know for the rest of his training days that that program wasn't for him.

I say go for it and take the chance bro. It might not do much good but I highly doubt it will cause any harm.

And forget substitutes, fight through those 15rm deads!
