First of all, sorry for shouting. I need the info I am asking before thursday evening (european time) so I can print them out and give to my "opponent". Please read on...

My parents and I are going to visit my granma this easter. I told my mother that I'll have to buy non-carb food (eggs, meat, fish) to eat in the evenings instead of the fatty bread and cookies they always eat there. She got very, very upset and claimed that MANY STUDIES SHOW THAT CARBS ARE NEEDED IN THE EVENING. God damn, that's bullshit! Now I want to get scientific abstracts and articles about low-carb diets and low-carb (evening) meals.

Also she said that the fat will come back after I start eating carbs at evenings... I said that I will never eat carbs in the evening again and then she started the rant how hazardous it is... Damn! So I would also need links to studies that show that, yes, the liver is really cabable of storing carbs, and the clygogen(?) stores don't deplete in a day or two!

Of course my mother also said that a man needs only A FEW GRAMS OF protein to survive. I bet she has mixed up carbs and protein. What an idiot. So if anyone knows links to the studies that claim that a hard trainer needs a few grams per pound, let me know also!

She's a nice lady but always thinks she knows everything and just loves to argue without a reason. So just help me "win" her in this stupid argument.

Relax dude, tread easy especially when family is concerned. Im sure you'll find the articles you're looking for but why not have a cheat/refeed day on that day?

Your mother probaly did alot of reading up about nutrition back in the CARBS DONT MAKE YOU FAT - FAT MAKES YOU FAT era... My mother used to encourage multiple bowls of pasta to facilitate fat loss as well as NO FAT cookies, you are not alone... The studies she is looking at are probaly not written about atheletes.

if what you eat is truly important to you:
buy a foreman, buy a cooler.... bring your own food with you when you go to visit and cook it on your foreman. i often bring food to my grandmas - ALL SHE COOKS IS POTATOES AND RICE, YUMMY, but not what i want to eat

couple of decent articles:

That's a bad situation, especially because it is family. That is difficult when people aren't educated about why we do the things we do. Try to explain to her that what you are doing is for your health, and that she should respect that. I have been in the same situation, nobody seems to understand why you won't just be "normal" (which to me is the worst thing in the world). People just can't relate to the things we do. They hear some shit on CNN about creatine or ephedrine and then all of the sudden if you take creatine you are risking your life. They don't seem to know the shit is in foods we eat (beef, fish). The only way she will change her mind is if she gets educated. I have had some fucking battles with my dad over that shit, I mean serious shit. I hated it, because me and my dad are close and he just didn't understand me. In the end, you have to live for yourself. You can't live your life to try to make your parents happy, it' your life. Obviously be tactful and as patient as you can be, but it's your body. Does your body look like theirs? My guess is that your body looks totally different than theirs, there's a reason for that. You are conscious of what you put into your body, it's not just taste. Goodl luck, stay strong, because if you buckle you can kiss it goodbye. If you break once, they will always bring it back on you. Peace!

Well the problem is that I'm going to stay there for 5 days (both grandmas and cousins parents).

I'm not going to hurt anyone's feelings. My mom understands that I eat specially but she just thinks that low-carbs are wrong and high-protein is bad. Well at least she knows the difference in good fats and bad fats :) Also my dad accepts these things as he sees me gulping protein shakes where we work.

It's only a matter of UPDATING my mom's approach to carbs and protein. I think it would do good to her as well.

Thanks for the links, I'll check them.

But, for the new readers of this thread; please, post more links if you have them.

I just noticed you said they'll eat fatty breads and cookies
i dont think even you mother can argue that fatty breads and sugary cookies are good for you haha

my mother hasnt got a clue about nutrition either and is a large lady but she knows that much :D

I get the same shit from my son-in-laws family. They think they know everything about exercise and food and all I hear is "watch out, don't do too much etc." Meanwhile they haven't exercised a day in their life! Plus they are all out of shape - I don't even answer - not worth it - unless you have a license, no one listens to you. Even at work, every one has to put their 2 cents in on what I am eating and doing. They all laugh at me because I work out and eat the way I do. Meanwhile they are all out of shape and look 20 yr older than me.:)

:FRlol: this has got to be the funniest god damn thread ever. is it just me or is this halarious aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahahahhh
