My house got robbed last night while I was home

Thanksgiving, 2005? my parents home in Scottsdale. We were testing the alarm system. Since no one has actually heard, or seen the system in action. Apparently the phone cable line in, was disconnected and the phone call from the monitoring service didn't come. About 4 hours later, we were all gathered eating thanksgiving dinner, and we see a lone female cop, snooping around in the back yard by the pool. She couldn't see us, through the tinted glass.
She mentioned how many false alarms are reported, and that they aren't made a priority at all. So don't expect the cops to come running if your alarm is triggered.

mine went off 1 time since we had it. false alarm. cops arrived in 9 minutes.

A good five alarm though isn't a bad thing, even if it doesn't call anybody. If you don't want to go the armed route, you could get some flash bangs and night vision goggles. Drop em down the stairs, look away......than come running down with the easton or the gutter pipe. You'll pretty much have your way with them since they'll all be doubled over and clutching at their eyelids. I personally would love to have 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted down time with a wood be burglar before the cops show up. I would bullwhip him into infinity.
Believe it or not a bit of that is the function of the neighborhood itself.
If you get a system that goes off with sirens and turns on lights, it's effective, far more effective than a gun sitting around in an unoccupied house.

What freaks me out the most is that this happened while he was home. They HAD to be armed. I wouldnt sleep there again until I had a security system installed!

they stole a bunch of stuff including a video camera
they ended up finding the guys and some of the stolen goods
When the stuff was returned to him, he was fiddling with the video camera and noticed they had taped themselves talking, and testing out the camera, and they were talking about a murder they committed not realizing the camera was still recording
he brought the camera back to the cops and the re-arrested the men for murder

I was upstairs sleeping and someone entered through a door downstairs and stole about $3500.00 worth of electronics including my 40" LCD TV. I didn't hear a thing thanks to sleep apnea. I am sleeping with a CPAP every night and I can't hear too well with the machine on. I just sold my guns a couple of months ago. I'm going to have to buy another one to keep by the bed. I'm thinking of a .357 magnum with a 4 or 5 inch barrel. I was looking at a Taurus .357 today. I want a revolver because they are so easy to operate that I won't screw up in a moment of panic. I think a 4" barrel is needed for accuracy. The dealer was asking $500 for the Taurus. I thought that was a little bit high. I don't know, maybe they plan on people haggling over the price with them.
This all sucks so bad. I'm afraid to go to sleep now. I know most guys will talk macho shit about how much ass they would kick if someone broke into their home but when it really happens it scares the shit out of you. I suspect that more than one person entered. Even though that TV is a LCD model and only weighs 35 kilos, it is still too long and bulky for one person to carry a long distance. There was no place to drive a vehicle near where they exited so they had to carry it around to the front of the building which would make the trip at least 40 meters. They also took 3 camcorders and two still cameras. The worst part is that one of the camcorders has a video of my 3 month old nephew that's priceless. I'm insured for full replacement value with a $500 deductible. Unfortunately that doesn't get the baby video back
True. Lot of dudes want say they be superman in any situation. A 9 will change all that. LOL! Most dudes would bitch out. You don't know what the other person is willing to do and is able to do. Just let them take what they are going to take. It's not worth it. Goodthing you are alright atleast. Hope they catch them.

Security foks will tell u one thing:
Do everything possible to encourage thieves to hit ANOTHER house. That means lights out in front, sign that it is armed and protected, perhaps a dog, remove the big tree in front yard, window bars (if u live int he ghetto), loud alarm if door/window is opened (ear piercing loud), avoid having the h2 in the driveway when the neighborhood is poor. STuff like that.
Or move to a better neighborhood!
