Do all squats feel heavy regardless of how much is on the bar?

I kinda notice that too. I'm not incrementing up that much, but between 225 and 300 it seems abou thte same but I know it's not.

i've noticed it too. i get to a certain weight when warming up and think "oh f#%k this should feel lighter." for a moment i even begin to question if i'm gonna be able to get all my reps that day, but then i get to my working sets and pump out the reps.

Depends on form

The heavy feeling usually indicates a lack of stability or proper form. Everything is important in order for you to be properly setup.

Taking it out of the rack is very important. Your upper back should be a solid rack; your elbows should be under the bar, and then you should arch out of the rack like doing a goodmorning, and not push it up and out with your legs. Your steps back should be exact. Before descent I always mentally cue myself, chest up and knees out.

If you approach each weight and treat it equally, then this setup will be natural. Warming up with the bar should be done exactly as your last set would be done.

My abs are my weak spot that I have to constantly improve upon, so when I squat without a belt, I feel the heavy instability feeling you talk of. With the belt on, I have good stability so that the heavy feeling is not as pronounced.

Westside Videos

The Westside squat videos from www.elitefts.com are good. Check the Articles section for stuff by Louie Simmons. He explains alot of mental cues that should be performed during the bench, SQ, and DL.

I'll see if I can get some pics posted of each position and what is done.

I usually keep my elbows back a bit so that I can hold the bar lower without it wanting to roll off my back. Is that bad form? What is the reason for keeping the elbows under the bar, rather than behind it? Thanks.

the only hard one is the one I can't get..... The heavy ones are the weights I really don't prepare for. I notice I can do a lot more now cause I got rid of many of the intermediate sets and stop lfting in the mirror. Really distracting to see veins on every part of your face
