are you ever taught to go to your stomach when in a hold? i thought that was a sport judo thing only?
perhaps i mis understood your bellying out comment?
my instructor will teach us just about anything that can realistically be useful in a situation we may realistically find ourselves in
I don't know how bellying out would look to a Judo guy but what it is to us is basically if we are down in Cross Body (sorry he's odd on names Cross Body might not be what other people call it, but it's a mount/hold where your like holding the guy down with your sternem on his chest roughly and he can be elbowed or kneed in the ribs or head for the picture)
and when on bottom it would look like this
Cross Body Bottom > Shrimp in > Scissorkick legs so we are on our belly (this is bellying out) > Pull our knees under us > Reach through their legs to grab ankle > Go forward into them to get them on their backs
it's hard to explain and hard to do the first few times but it's not that bad once you get used to it
I belive it came from Wrestling but it may well have come from Judo
or BJJ
I never know where he learned the grappling stuff he teaches us but I an recognise all the standup
tho the striking is easy the actual strikes come from Boxing or MThai so if it's a kick a knee or an elbow its' MThai if it's a Punch it's from Boxing
tho he has a tiny bit of JKD sprinkled in for striking
