alcatraz pullup post

when I first starting doing crossfit I figured this was something I would do on and off, as a break from my regular lifting cause I didn't think you got terribly strong from these kind of wkts, just fit. But there's guys at that crossfit website that are not just insanely fit, but are insanely strong. Dave Lipson can do an overhead squat with like 330 pounds. That means he's locking the bar out over his head and then dips down for the squat. Him and Jason Khalipa over there are probably among the most overall athletic people on the entire planet. I mean not only are these guys ridiculously strong for being only a couple pounds over 200......they are ridiculously fit. Lipson could enter some strongman competitions and not embarass himself. Those guys are on another level.

Athlete Profile: Dave Lipson - Northeast Regional : 2010 CrossFit Games

This is a video of khalipa.....not doing any great amount of weight but remember this dude is 5'9 a hair over 200 and squats/deads well over 400

just nonstop. Sick^^^

now Im bulked up at 209 by the time I get to the gym Im pushing 215. I suck at pullups because of that right now... My max would probably be 9 with a curl grip, or 4 maybe with a wide grip :(

I have hit 11 wide grip's though when I was lighter and 14 or 16 I dont remember with a curl grip.

i totally agree with your reply.
i hear, and read posts of people downplaying a crossfit athlete.
but of all the bodybuilders i know of that switched to the crossfit style of training, they improved their fitness level big big time, and their overal appearence was a better too.
the crossfit dudes are built.amature xfitters look and are built the same as amature bodybuilders.
i think it an ego thing why bodybuilders dont like xfitters. same as why runners dislike cyclists. their sport is the harder one. any other sport isnt tough enough.
line up 50 amature athletes
all the local guys from the bodybuilding gyms, and then get 50 from a crossfit gym.
the builds will be the same, but the athletic performance will be un matched.tell the xfit guy to do curls. he'll do them. tell the bodybuilder to run 2 miles, he may, but grandma slow times... i bet.
tell the xfit guy to do side laderals or squats he'll be fine. tell the bodybuilder to do ovehead squats or thrusters and i bet he wont be able to do any. maybe a few.
plus, they are built the same.
now put a hot chick 3 miles away and whoever gets there first gets her. i bet 50 xfit guys win over the bodybuilders.
so my point, is they are built the same, the amatures, why not train like a xfitter?
i am glad i do both
they can do it all it seams like. ring muscleups. overhead squats burpees jump rope. then on the traditional lifts, they are studs in the bench deadlift and squat.
they crush bodybuilders in pullups, dips and rowing and running events..
plus like i said, go online and look at the average bodybuilder at your local gym, and look at a local xfit dude and the xfit dude is built as good if not better, and is way fitter.

personally, i do a bit of each to get stronger for the endurace sport i do, but if i was ever to switch to training full time it be crossfit first big time.
i am not downplaying the bodybuilder at all, but it seems like on the amature everyday athletes, why not go with a trainig method that make you look like a bodybuilder, but makes you way fitter?

I personally witnessed Fonz doing pullups from a dead hang to full contraction at a speed that was impossible for the human brain to keep count with unless it was by a NASA physics developer and his light bending machine (with a SAS soccer player standing guard as well).

He did them one handed too.
