I can't stand it people "diagnose" each other with the latest syndrome or disorder.
It's even worse when people try to diagnose themselves.
Don't people realize that at the best of times a lot of these diagnoses, even by doctors, are just guesses?
I don't know about Aspergers or autism, I am not really referring to that here, but bipolar disorder, ADD/ADHD, antisocial disorder, borderline disorder, PTSD, etc. If you go to a psychiatrist, they are just guessing according to classifications that are not by any means 100% to be trusted. Basically psychiatrists all get together to talk about these symptoms at conventions and meetings and try to put names to symptoms- it is not an exact science. This becomes obvious when you have people looking up disorders and convincing themselves they have the disorder, going to the doctor and repeating back the symptoms they read, even they don't entirely fit. And trust me, being prescribed something like Lamictal when you don't have bipolar disorder, Ritalin when you don't have ADHD, or Clonazepam when you don't have PTSD is a recipe for disaster and impaired brain function.
