I recommend eating small meals throughout the day for a couple of reasons:
1. It will keep blood sugar levels stable - this will keep your body in a favourable fat burning environment
2. Every time you eat a meal that hits the leucine threshold (you need about 3g of leucine to do this) you fully stimulate muscle protein synthesis through the mtor pathway
3. Better absorption of nutrients/food

I recommend 4-5 meals per day with 1-2 shake meals. Most people can fit that into their daily schedule pretty easily.
 
I like to eat throughout the day just to keep from ever getting a really "full" feeling or a really "starving" feeling. It is easier to stick to the diet if you keep everything even throughout the day.
