Sarge's Lifting Chronicles 2006-2007

Re: Sarge hits the 5x5 for Ginormous Soleus Muscles!! - Log

[get your own f*ing journal, CS]Interesting that you mention that, since I've actually been dealing with the same issue. I've been doing one-week deloads, and the next PR phase has gone pretty well (i.e., average of 5 PR weeks after an appropriate rampup). But I've always felt like I didn't recover quite as fully as I would have liked, in part because, even though I can usually tell on Monday that that week will be my last, I've gone ahead with Wednesday and Friday's workouts, gotten (or occasionally failed on) some grinding PRs, and probably put myself in a bigger hole as a result.

This week, after completing Monday's workout, which hit me like a train, I decided to back off immediately and essentially do a 1.5 week deload (light workouts W and F, as well as next week). Another factor in this decision was knee pain after shady form (knees coming in, too much bounce) as my squat stalled, but it should be beneficial CNS-wise, too. Unfortunately, since it's happening concurrently with your deload, I can't tell you definitively whether it was a good idea yet.[/get your own f*ing journal, CS]

In short, if you're feeling pretty beat up, two weeks of deloading sounds like a good way to go.

I think you did the right thing it sounds like. No need to do Wednesday's just to "be sure."

I took that week as "just having a bad week" and now i know for future reference that I should stop there before I hurt myself.

The funny thing is... I didn't add a whole lot to my bench (only 5lbs come to think of it). Gotta be the caloric restriction I guess at this point in time.

You should have your own journal :) You always have great, sound advice i'm sure people could learn a thing or four by reading along.

2 weeks ... damn, ok. After tonights Day 5, if I feel like doing it... i have 2 days off, maybe i'll take 3 and see how i'm doing monday.

lol, I almost didn't include the journal joke because I knew this would be suggested. I don't want to do the journal thing. Maybe someday. :p

I think you're right about cutting calories being the reason your lifts stalled. Given that you aren't doing heavy squats and deads, you probably didn't manage to bury yourself too badly even if, with hindsight, you might've stopped a few workouts earlier. FWIW, I usually start to feel better and eager to get back to regular lifting around Friday of my deload weeks. So not feeling recovered midway through the week isn't necessarily a cause for concern or for committing to a second light week (as you already realize).

Whenever I get worn out, the immune system drops and I get a cold. If you have that kinda problem, start upping the c and zinc in preventative fashion?

Also maybe try and get some uv rays?

Since the last sentence had a '?', here's an answer (that I've posted before).

So what you're saying is that just because well over thirty studied have concluded that vitamin c supplementation has extremely little to likely no benefit in cold prevention or severity reduction that I am, therefore, in fact, wrong?

Whatever man.

:p

Airborne is Zinc based and that works for me... might be psychosomatic (sp?)

FWIW? WTF?! were are all these "new" acronyms coming from? lmao...

Very good, thanks for some insight bro.

Kab: Vit C is at 3 grams a day every day... i have 1g caps i pop 3x a day with my other supps and whatnot (fish oil, gluc r, potassium, B6, multi, ect.)

No workout last night. Just relaxed.

This morning woke up before my alarm (hasn't happened in about a month).

My body is healing, I felt refreshed and very good this morning. Very good sign. Feeling good still.

Going to do my light Day 5 tonight and try squatting again :)
