[get your own f*ing journal, CS]Interesting that you mention that, since I've actually been dealing with the same issue. I've been doing one-week deloads, and the next PR phase has gone pretty well (i.e., average of 5 PR weeks after an appropriate rampup). But I've always felt like I didn't recover quite as fully as I would have liked, in part because, even though I can usually tell on Monday that that week will be my last, I've gone ahead with Wednesday and Friday's workouts, gotten (or occasionally failed on) some grinding PRs, and probably put myself in a bigger hole as a result.
This week, after completing Monday's workout, which hit me like a train, I decided to back off immediately and essentially do a 1.5 week deload (light workouts W and F, as well as next week). Another factor in this decision was knee pain after shady form (knees coming in, too much bounce) as my squat stalled, but it should be beneficial CNS-wise, too. Unfortunately, since it's happening concurrently with your deload, I can't tell you definitively whether it was a good idea yet.[/get your own f*ing journal, CS]
In short, if you're feeling pretty beat up, two weeks of deloading sounds like a good way to go.
