It looks as though westside barbell at least george is flat benching. Not all out, but in his article he talks about flat benching to help the bottom of the lift. Reps of 6 or so. You see i heard he is a closet bencher. Dave Tate told me he benched 640 with out a shirt. If he didt ever flat bench that would not happen. I am not saying there changing, but like Louie says in his current article, and i quote
" People make the mistake thinking that there is only one method of training. In fact there are many, and they must coexist in a continuous chain of proven methods".
Now this is just my opinion but i believe alot of people that cant bench alot or do not like ot bench alot, believe they can do lockouts and speed which and throw on a shirt and bench big. I dont think so. How many guys do you see , or ok know that can bench 400 ish maybe 450 ish raw and go over 600 with a shirt. Not many if any at all.
I myself do this with deadlifting. I am really getting into my good mornings and rack pulls and i know there is a carry over to my pulls. I proved it. But the difference is iam hitting those muscles from all angles. With bench you are neglating weigh pushed off your chest. Not 50% but some freakin weight. Dont pause just touch go but you non benchers out there are not feeling what real weight feels like up to 6 inches off your chest. You knwo what 50 to 60% feels like and assume your shirts will take up the bnottom 6 inches or so then your finely tuned triceps will then kick in. And it does to an extent. All you 100% westsiders should have strong top end strength. As most of you know the only difference in my training and westside is i bench heavy raw instaed of speed work. Then 72 hrs later i hit heavy boards and shit. So my only point is this westside works so dont just give it up, just throw in some flat benching, and you might up your shirt bench.
It snot necessary but since George Halbert does it , i figured you future benchers who dont get PL usa would like to knwo he throws it in his list of exercises.
