Just Incline-benched 315 on the smith, question?

lol i saw a short fat guy in my gym today benching 405 incline for 5. but he looked like shit, i hate weight lifter look.

I have no idea what the Smith Machine lifts translate too... I generally use dumbells and the bar occassionally. I can get 315 on the incline on the bar... when I use dumbells I only use the 120's cause thats all we have. You have to love the pump those dumbells give you! Plus, think of it like lifting a super hot girl in each hand on the incline... LOL

Smith inclines mess up my shoulders so I wouldn't suggest you do them as a regular exercise. Same with Smith Squat. You end up moving your body to fit the bar rather than the bar to fit your body. So you put more strain on your joints and/or spine.

thank you..smith machine is the worst invention ever..the bar doens not travel in a straight line..it will not help your bench/squat/dead because it will teach you bad habits..

Actually a few weeks ago, I flat-benched 315 for 15 reps. I am now on a cutter, and down about 12-15 pounds in bodyweight. I know my bench hasn't suffered a whole lot. Today I got on the smith machine, and was only able to bench 315 for 2 reps. I did do inclines first, and that usually kills my flat bench. I have really good technique on bench, so I think that helps me get extra pounds, and reps. The smith machine kinda takes away any technique advantage you might have.

haven't used both the barbell and smith in awhile, like someone stated- it depends on your abilities, if you're doing more than what you have done before then it's good progress
btw i use 150lb db on incline for 8

As it was stated, it does really take away from any technique and keep the lift in a straight plane. So depending how much "technique" you use with freeweight, the difference can be larger. I havent done smith in a while so its hard for me to compare.
On the machine I used I dont remember the difference in reps being too large between smith and freeweight. I havent tested this in a while though. Sometimes it feels more difficult. If you can get 315 on smith you are probabally not too far from getting it on freeweight. Might take some weeks to get used to stabilizing the weight. I once used smith for behind the neck and in front, military presses. I havent done it in a while though, since I do mostly side lateral work for delts now, and since I do alot of chest work. "Respectable" is all a matter of perspective. At the gym I train at though, youd definately get some looks for putting up that kind of weight on incline, smith or freeweight. Sounds like your getting strong to me. KEEP KILLING THAT SHIT!!
