How exactly do you do the clean grip? When I tried front squats I found my arms got very tired and my wrists seemed to be taking a lot of the load. I guess its possible that my arms are just not flexible enough to hold the bar in the proper position.
 
Yes, a clean grip actually takes a lot of flexibility, especially in the triceps, believe it or not. Load the bar with some extra weight, walk up as if you were going to front squat it, and just get it in the grip and hold the stretch. You're not actually holding the bar UP with your hands, you're just holding it in place, using your fingertips to keep it flush with your collarbone/neck.
