i find it rather odd that you find it funny that a person can no longer defend themselves or their family against a violent aggressor without becoming a criminal themselves. (which i doubt is true, because if this was the case in PA, people would be hitting the streets).

The criminal attacks a cop and injures him, but then runs. Cop gives chase, but instead of cuffing him, catches up and shoots him dead. That cop would be fired and potentially prosecuted.

If they shoot him while running away, it's fine. No charges. Danger was still present. If he runs away, surrender himself and they cuff him, then yes, the cop would most likely be fired.

At the point he ceased assaulting her and fled she had no "legal" right to shoot him. During the assault she would have been able to shoot him though. She would likely be charged with murder or man slaughter here in the US. Even in Texas.
