The top 50% of earners paid 96% of income taxes last year. The bottom 50% paid only 4%.

So it seems as if tens of millions of people paid no income taxes. Shall we kick them out as well?

No, all those people paid income taxes..so they could stay. Obviously the bottem 50% didnt pay as much since they dont make as much, but they still contributed...Which is better than nothing. Id rather have them make atleast some contribution than nothing if they are going to take the money I earned.

Anyone realize how easy it is for a Mexican to get a work permit to come to the states? There should be no need to come here illegally...Unless I'm unaware of something changing over the past year Mexicans getting work permits are as easy as taking the drivers test to get a license

The bottom 50% paid only FOUR PERCENT of income taxes. This means that tens of millions paid NOTHING. So paying income taxes is the new defintion of contributing? Millions of "Americans" don't contribute, so should we kick them out too?

Anyone else here sense that MattTheSkywalker may have jumped the border himself at one time? Why are you defending people who are breaking the law? They ate here illegally PERIOD.. Therefore they do not belong here.... If they want to come her in a legal manner and obtain citizenship, then fine, that's great.. I have no problem welcoming them here then..

By your reasoning then columbia should be allowed to import all the coke they want.. Afterall, the money made from illegal narcotics is also used to purchase goods which are taxed and there benefiting the US and its citizens.. Hmmm, interesting....

Sorry J. I was born here. Also served this country for 3 years.

I have given numerous day laborers a lot of work. They work hard. I am all ears if you want to talk about a logical reason to stop immigration. One logical reason.

Immigration was not regulated at all by the federal government until 1875. By then, vast numbers of immigrants had come here freely. So how can we turnaround now and justify inhibiting people from coming here? No logic there, just the haves picking on have-nots.

As for me, I am all for legalizing drugs. I don't need to be told what to put into my body.

I'd like to see a comparison between these figures and similar ones fom the 60s or 70s. What these statistics are really saying is that we have achieved what every 3rd world country has. We have rich people and we have poor people and not nearly as much in between as we used to.

Is it ethical to create 1 rich person while creating 20 poor people? I think not.

So...50% of America is dirt poor. Wonderful country we have here.

All for legalizig drugs? Well now weed and Steroids aside, as I would tend to agree with legalizing those, but personally I have had 2 friends die from using crystal meth.. Do you really want to see a new flood of ODs coming out of the schools in this country? Thats no doubt what would happen.. But back to he subject at hand.

I have no problem what so ever with immigration.. One way or another thats the reason most of us are here today.. My only problem is with ILLEGAL Immigration.. I welcome every person who has legally Immigrated to the US.. But for every illegal Immigrant that takes ZERO responsibility for themselves as far as paying income and SS taxes, all the while receiving illegally government aide, then that is just more money out of my as well as your pocket to take care of these people.

I don't mind being taxed my share in order to help US citizens, but I'll be damned If it's right for me to be taxed to pay for the health and welfare of foreign citizens who are here through illegal means.

As far as whether Immigration laws here are too strict or not, well thats another matter entirely which I don't feel any need to get into here.. But compared to some countries where you would simply be shot for coming near their border, well ours just don't seem that bad..

But among other things, these immirgants are not and never will be vaccinated againt infectious and potentially deadly diseases, therefore making them prime candidates to be carriers and speaders of disease. They could very easily bring across some horrible plague, of which AIDS would qualify, only increasing the infectuous disease death rate of our country... And in this day of threats of terrorism, whos to say a group of illegal imigrants couldn't be paid to cross the border after having been infected with small pox or some other such disease? It's just something to think about...

And Matt, I must commend you for a intelligent non childish stance and arguement. LOL, that's kinda rare on this board sometimes :lmao:

PEACE

Yes there is logic there. In 1875 you came over here, and what did the government give you, a better job market than your home country and a semblence of equal rights. What did that cost the people already living here, nothing.

In 2002 you come over here and you get food stamps, welfare, free education, Medicaid and the list goes on and on, and you know who pays for it, me, you, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and the poor working class family of 5 down the street who is struggling to make ends meet.

I dont mind immigrants coming here for a better life. If you've got a strong back, we'll take you. What really chaps my ass is when they come here and take advantage of services that are supposed to be for taxpayers since they are funded by taxpayers.

Maybe only property owners should be able to vote? I wonder how that would change things?
