My doc just did a CPK test on me and it came out very high it supposed to be in a range of (61-224) as a high but mine is 475 anyone else ever have this test done he said with a high CPK it could cause the kidneys to clog up (kidney failure) High cpk could aslo be because of muscle damage like to much exercise ha ha ok.

I had almost the same result and will wait a week or two to do more blood work. Still, I had a viral illness at the time. How about you?

CPK results of 475 are not a big deal if you are training hard. A very intense heavy workout could raise your CK levels to the 10000 mark. Your doctor sounds like a Family Doc. New terms now are CK and CK-MB (or just MB). These test are done to check for the present of a Heart attack (MI). The CK portion of the test has to do with muscle damage (any muscle in the body not just cardiac). The MB portion is more cardiac related. Other things of importance: Why did your doctor do this test? Where you having chest pain? Make sure that your doctor was reporting the CK portion, If your MB was this high, this would more than likely indicate a HEART ATTACK (normal MB levels 0 - 10). If you were having chest pain your doctor should have pulled a Troponin level (this test is very cardiac specific, a level of >=0.5 = MI). Hope this imformation helps out.

The doc had the test done because I was on lipitor for cholesterol and he said this test checks for muscle damage and that the test is routine for people taking lipitor but he is a fam doc .

hey bro i would not worry alot about the level right now, if you are working hard. any time you have a release of cpk/ck in the body it means a muscle is over worked some how. we do the test for AMI's (heart attack's) this does not mean a true heart attack it means muscle damage or strain of some kind. you need a troponin level and a total ck/md w/cpk to determine heart muscle damage, but this is used to to put the md on the right track. so an elevated level of cpk can just mean that you are working your muscle's really hard and thats all. sojust my $.02 i wouldn't worry about it,later duckster:p
