Well they've been freeware for years now... they also have the paid version, they lure you with free and then get you to pay I'm not easy to convince so I just dont buy it

last time I downloaded the free it it actually deflated to private
and then I had to elect to free, which required an extra step

It's still by far the lesser of two evils to go by word of mouth, even when magazines may tell you otherwise about how good a product may be-

Worked with PCs for over 2 years and I can tell you almost as a fact that having Norton and McAfee are almost worse than a virus itself, they slow you down, updates freeze and slow down your PC, they are annoying as hell AND offer no higher/relevant significant protection over freeware antivirus, I have found Spybot Search and Destroy and AVG free to be the best freeware.

Yeah that's a pretty good freeware combo. I run it as well.

I find a direct correlation between potential viral attacks and bestiality surfing

third party firewall programs are almost obsolete now. i won't say they are useless, but they are pretty damned close.

Microsoft Security Essentials seems to work as well as any of the other freebies. And it doesn't slow your system.

Most viruses/trojans pose as MSE so I wouldnt get it....
