Don't forget the part about not being able to translate most of the languages so they even come close to the original, then factor in the people that had them translated to accommodate their agendas, you have a convoluted story of people that didn't exist or might have centuries before the words were actually written.

Wasn't total hell (no burning and suffering), but they still didn't get to hang out with god in heaven. Those folks had to wait around until the second coming and then christ would give them an opportunity to accept him as their savior. Well the jehovah witnesses are fucked, their heaven is already filled.

The Hindu, Hindi, Muslim Baha'i and all the others in the world that haven't been infected by missionaries are also fucked. The original catholic priests had a great way to deal with new converts, either they converted or died, pretty much made the conversion rate 100% one way or another.

See now Magyar Reformed didn't make it that complicated. There was no limbo or rapture. Just heaven and hell. Unbaptized babies got to go to hell. Oddly enough no one in the church was in a hurry to baptize the babies... Dunno why that is exactly. All three of us (older brother, younger sister and me) were old enough to sit and practically walk when we were baptized.

We had two years to learn the entire catechism, got ask two questions in front of the whole congregation at 14 and you had damned well know ALL of the answers because you didn't know which 2 the reverend would ask you. I got to be one of the lucky kids that had to do it in both english AND Magyar. Oh joy! The humiliation was immeasurable if you didn't know the answers and the reverend had to help you out!

One of my confirmation questions was verbatim:

"What are the consequences of sin?"

Dunno why I remember that exaclty, just know that I do. Comes in handy in these instances.
