Approved Log Slyder Rotator cuff surgery log

EF Logger

So I finally had surgery on my right shoulder.
Typing left handed for now.
My cuff was torn, bicep tendon was split. Also needed everything else cleaned up.
Yesterday was surgery.
Doctor told wife the surgery went well. It was a complete cuff tear. The tendon was worse than expected . He also cut loose the tendon and relocated it.
Was put out and had two nerve blocks. As of this morning no real pain. Nerve blocks are working still . They could last couple days.
I will try and keep y’all posted

Rest and rehab - properly

damn man that sounds like a bad injury
torn rotator cuff is the worst

much respect for sharing your surgery story
did they say when you'll be able to start lifting light again

Day two
The day was good.
Woke up about 3 am off couch. Moved to chair. That is a normal wake up time for me.
Got a little more sleep in chair.
Still minimal pain
The sent me home with 4 meds plus otc Tylenol.
Stool softener, Advil, nerve med, oxy.
Only taking first 3 and Tylenol.
Around 12:30 I started to feel nerve blocks wearing off. By 1:45 pain was full on. Took my first oxy at 2. Took another oxy at 6 and 10 pm. Went to sleep about 10:30.
Was awake most of the day. This was strange cause I was awake more than normal just sitting around.
Ice machine about hour on the hour off.
Still too much bandage for it to really get cold. Bandages come off tomorrow. The I will get some pics.

bro dude on tanker got caught up on the rope and twisted his arm All the Way backwards and tore his whole shoulder
he had to do surgery same way
That sounds horrible

Good thing that tattoo isn’t finished. Might need to add some scars or cracks

Day three
Woke up with minimal pain.
All day only took Tylenol and Advil. No oxy.
End of day took off bandages and cleaned up. Feels good to get off the big bandages. Now I just have bandaids over the six stick locations. Now the ice machine feels better.
Bored just sitting around. So I went outside for a little walk.

@Slyderkt tat looks great bro :)

and the pain killers stay away from oxy, its death, better just stick to tylenol and hold out :)

Yep oxy is gone. I only took three that one day.
Keep it simple.
Just walked to the gym. Needed out of the house. Did some leg machines. Nothing special. Then sat in sauna.
Then walked back home. I live down town so it was a great walk.

I can appreciate your issue with oxy.
I am an alcoholic and was a meth head in my early 20’s.
It hard to beleive I am 30 plus years drug free an 6 year sober.
I know I have an addictive personality. That is why I only took them the second day.
I don’t need that in my life.
Thanks for the looking out.
Proud of you kicking it.

All is well.
Bored out of my head.
Drove to the office. Had to fix some stuff that was going wrong. Not released to drive yet. Figured not on any narcotics. So what the hell.
Switched over to an ice pack that is in a shoulder harness. It is easier to get on by my self.
link dont open @Slyderkt
can you do a screen shot for us?

Two weeks after surgery. Doing great.
Manageable pain. Only hurts to lift arm. So not lifting arm.
Only taking gabapdntine and meloxicam. Actually trying to stop those. Tonight having weird pain in neck. I think it feels like a nerve pain shooting in my neck. I remembered that’s were the gave me shot for the nerve block. So I took gabapentine and we will see in morning.
I saw the dr today. He took out my stitches. Told me to start PT next Thursday. Only need to wear sling two more week. That’s to keep me from jerking it or reaching for stuff.
Maybe light lifting in 8 weeks. Not rushing anything.

@Slyderkt 2 weeks post surgery happy to hear you're coming back.

are you taking bpc and hgh? yet

even with these issues you should still update the log
nutrition can go a long way at healing

what is the timeline from here
what are specifically your goals

1 of the things I want to see is more updates
during injuries you can still train your lower body

keep the grind going
I've seen people with major injuries still push through

definitely keep us updated
it definitely is motivating

you will be back before you know it
you are a true warrior

Thanks guys for all the support. I am hoping that this log help anyone with shoulder problems not be scared of surgery. I like to be clear in my logs with the good and bad I experience.
So far am very glad I have done this. I wish I had done it two years ago and not lost that time. But here I am now. I am so ready to start PT next week. I am already stretching it a little and trying to get range of motion.
Sleeping is rough. I spent the last two night with out the sling on. Tonight I plan to wear in in my sleep again. With it on I sleep better. It is just more secure. Both nights with out it I have raised my arm in my sleep and hurt my self. Nothing major but I don’t want to have a problem. I have to wear the sling two more weeks. So I will sleep the same way till then.
My goals ? Just get this rehab done and get back in the gym better than ever. I have been going to the gym. Trying to keep up the good habit. I have been doing some leg machines twice a week. Going to gym today for legs. I will update. Time to start kicking in more cardio. Probably treadmill or bike. For starters. Hopefully start light weights on upper body 6-8 week

That gabapentin is some tough shit imo
It sure helps for nerve pain. I used to take it and have a years supply stocked up if I ever need it from time to time. I don't recommend using long term though. Just a week or two at a time. I also have a couple years worth of meloxicam.

Bicep tendon was split. This has been an on going issue last couple years also. So while he was in the shoulder he fixed. He took the tendon and anchored it th the humorous. Then he cut off the split section. So once that grows together it should be fixed.
Said not uncommon for this split. We have two bicep tendons . Both attach up in the shoulder. One of them is not all that important. That is the one I split. Unless you are a pitcher. He doesn’t fix them. A pitcher uses it more no one else really needs it.
So relocating it was I best option.

HGH. Yes I am taking it. I have not started any BCP 500 yet.. I did start up my TRT again last week. They asked me to reduce or stop testosterone injections before the surgery. It has a very slight risk in leading to an infection.

@Slyderkt I would start up bpc157 asap with the TRT and start getting infrared warm ups too ,can you?
hows your food?

3 weeks post op.
All is well.
Stitches have healed up nicely. Only one is still visible but looks good.
Did my first day of PT. That was good.
Just stretching and assisted movements.
Basically hold a pvc pipe in hands.
Left hand pushes right arm in several different directions.
Arm still has limited motion but I feel it is doing great. One more week in sling.

hopefully in 6 months from now you'll be back to yourself
definitely keep us updated in case one of us has to do the same thing

you may never be 100% but at least you'll be able to come back
not being able to train the way we want is no fun

I have not started the peptides yet. Oh ya I keep forgetting to order them. Just GH and test trt for now.

Bros is a doctor you went to very good with athletes
sounds like he's very knowledgeable
I think he is. They do most of the TCU athletes.

That’s the main reason I want to log this. I hope it helps someone going through it or deciding if they should. So far I can say I wish I had not avoided it and done it two years ago. But I’m here now and doing great

man we are so lucky to have you posting about this
these are the type of injuries that a lot of us will have to deal with
I would say stop doing flys.
Pec deck is great replacement or do them on the floor so you can’t go too deep.
Definitely as you get older this stuff is harder on shoulders.

can you share your diet with us bro? :)
Diet is for shit right now. I am not eating junk.
I am just not eaten not regularly. I can say since I have not been able to train upper body for about 21/2 months. I have gained a few pounds. Not bed still 206. I have lost some size for sure. Man it goes away fast.
Wife and I just booked a cruise for last week of this year. I have to get busy. I wanna drop about 20 pounds in 2 months. Getting hurt while in a long bulk is rough

would be good to make diet changes bro @Slyderkt
more along lines of recovery diet
like high bone broth and collagen,
can we do that? :)

I would like a little help please. I have little knowledge of collagen and bone broth. Yes I have drank bone broth from the store. That’s about it.
I’ve done a little research the last few hours.
I’ve used “kettle and Fire” brand in past. I have also seen the Palio valley bone broth protein powder.
Recommendations are welcomed.
Collagen I only see the basic recommendations.
Powder form, good aminos, type I @ III.
I think my wife has some so might start there.
Brand “ live conscious “ seems good.

Shoulder feels great.
Yes it is sore but manageable. Today is last day in sling. The attachment point of the bi cep tendon has had the most pain.
Yesterday do PT. Got on an arm bike for 8 minutes. Lots of cane work. That is both hand on can. Left hand moves the cane and bad arm goes along for ride. Did that four directions. Those have 10 second hold at top foot 19 reps. Fisio ball on wall. Shoulder extension. Up and down then circles two direction. Some other stuff. The she stretches me. It hurts and feels great at same time. Then she massaged my lat cause it was tight.
Best was she massaged the attachment point on tendons. I thought I would cry or scream like a bitch. Damn it hurt. But afterwards felt great. Pushing into some is ok and is good. But not so far you tear something again.
Range of motion is become better every day.
So far I am great. Forcing my self not to grab some weights and go for it. That how good I feel.

so paleo valley is fine you can get that
can you make your own?
@stevesmi makes his own bone broth, you have the time?

i don't recommend any brands of bone broth. kettle and fire isn't horrible but it isn't good either. they add too much stuff to it and its just not the same buying bone broth out of a box

gotta make ur own. get a crock pot and use water or plain broth. warm up bones of fish, chicken or grassfed beef in the oven but dn't over cook. then transfer to crock pot after the liquid is hot. keep on high about 30 hours then remove the bones.. from there you can add veggies or chicken etc whatever you want. i have a bone broth recipe i posted on my log that shows it

Dang that sounds like cooking. Hahahahha
Thanks for the tips. I’ll see what I can do.

Great weekend.
Saturday the gym had a powerlifting meet.
Saw some crazy lifts.
Mad respect for powerlifters.
I got in a great stretch. I got on a lot of machines with zero or minimal weight. Just used the weight to help stretch the shoulder.
Sunday was leg day. Felt good. And actually making progress on my chicken legs.
No breakfast or food before gym. Lunch was a salad with chicken and half avacado.
Burgers at home for dinner.
Gonna lay around. Ice shoulder and watch football

Be nice if my gym had a comp. I might suggest it to the owner. I could offer a prize myself

I think a big part of it is the population is much higher so better chance of getting some strong dudes
