2 weeks ago, I noticed alot of pain in my left biceps when benching 220lbs or more. Like, it would hurt alot to get the bar down, and then it wouldn't hurt to get it back up. I insisted for a set of 5 reps then gave up the whole routine and went home. I then took a day off (thursday) and resumed training deads and rows on friday. I then took a whole week off (at the beach). The problem is that today the pain re-appeared during benching and it is really annoying me  . I consulted a physician at my club (where the gym is located @) and he told me that all I had to do was rest, and use a hot compression every 2 hours or so.

I believe that it is an issue in the tendon, since the pain is relatively close to the elbow, on the inner side of the biceps. Do you guys think I will be ok?
I will travel tomorrow so I will be more than a week away from the gym. But I am very concerned that it might impede my powerlifting goals :(

SHIT!

OH BTW: I have not been curling for the past month or so, so I have no idea where the motherfucker originated.

Sounds like you need to rest it. I get that periodically also and I take a few extra days rest and it is good as new. Aleve works good for me in the mean time to ease the pain. I try to think about it like this. What would be worst missing a few workouts for a week or two or tearing your bicep and being out for months or longer? You could also always consult a specialist and a get test done to check it out.

It sounds like it may be tendonitis (just speaking from personal experience, I am not a medical professional).

Rest is the number one thing. With the elbow, I find that wrist curls help relieve the pain, and also hammer curls and reverse curls tend to help me too.

ditto the rest, biceps tendonitis sucks especially if it's causing shoulder pain. Take some time off and try using dumbbells for pressing to see if that helps (locking your hands in the same position on everything takes a toll on the elbows)

Thanx BiggT and Tweax, but I think it has not escalated to tendonitis yet. I read around that tendonitis hurts all the time...
Hmm, my shoulder is fine tweax, no pain there. I will give it some rest...
lets c how I get on.

Good luck with it....there is varying degrees of tendonitis though from very mild where it doesn't effect anything to absolutely unbearable. It sounds like whatever this is won't be much of a problem though if you handle it with some common sense.

Thanx T
I will probably call my physician right away...
maybe get him to recommend some nandrolone to repair the tissue

One thing that might be causing it is squats, if you're holding the bar too much with your hands or pulling down on it. Make sure you're letting your back carry the weight with the hands/arms to stabilize it rather than tensing up too much and trying to pull the bar into your back.
