What is the best art for Street fighting?

san shou is not for fighting against guns or knives, its basically kick boxing with throws, and clinching, the current amatuer world le tai (san shou on a platform) champ is Patrick Brady (ultimate div.) hes also the 4 time us champ, he trains in my area.

So would you say it is effective for street fighting or would boxing be better?

san shou is real cool.. but again its gonna depend on your instructor your class and you you all train..

style vs style arguements only go so far.

If you dont LIKE Conditioning try Capoeira .

You WILL get into shape , but you wont feel like its as much WORK as just jogging down the street or whatever . They get you in shape in a more fun way , and they usually have LOTS of pretty women to look at ... its hard and will get you in INSANE condition , its just so much fun that you wont notice !

San Shou is like Muay Thai + (Folk) Wrestling . Its not really a Martial Art as much as it is a Ruleset . its the Ruleset used to judge Chinese Martial Arts typically , and its felt that it most Represents a Streetfight .

So then basically san shou is perfect? And maybe ill add in some boxing in a year or so when I feel I am at the size I want to be

If you do San Shou Rules you shouldnt need any more Boxing training . Just work more on your San Shou .

Unless you just plan to compete as a Boxer , that is . The only differences are that you will set up things differently when you AND your opponent CANT use your legs at all , and its actualy kind of a Detriment on the Street (still WAY better than nothing though) . Its fluid and Flows together from Kicking to Punching to Kneeing to Elbowing to Standing Grappling to Throwing to a FEW "Go-To" Ground subs that you can slap on in less than 30 seconds (Ideally less than FIVE sec) . Boxing dosent really add anything , even from a Conditioning standpoint . Like I said , if you want REAL Conditioning , do Capoeira .

Yea I was just going to use it to get my punches even better and dodging/blocking of punches even better. But I obviously wont need that is what it sounds like

well first point, kicking dosn't enable you to ignore a puncher believe me
secondly you can't generally pick based on style as well as you can instruction, but of the options I'd go with Regular Boxing
I think it's great that you can get all that instruction for free tho
