What is the best art for Street fighting?

maybe you had a bad boxing coach like you thought
cus my instructors say the same thing about ground up for power
yet my cross still sucks
thank goodness for my hook eh : o )

If the San Shou is free then I would take it for sure. And the boxing. Boxing covers the punching and evading punches aspect of combat quite nicely.. not to mention the footwork is quite immaculate. I really do not see how Tai Chi can help you in a street fight. Maybe you can like keep breathing and stuff and eventually bore your attackers to leave you alone. Or if you take Caporeira you can fasten like Roman candles to your legs and become this human ferris wheel and dazzle your opponents enough to leave you alone.

I hear what you are saying...
I have found that in the last couple of "situations" I have had. I was dressed up and wearing very nice shoes (coming out of a Night Club). Not the type of clothing I would want wrestle in (if i can avoid it)... I feel very confortable on my feet and would rather stand up with the guy and knock him out, I know if I hit the right spot, he is gone. granted if I throw a couple of combinations and the guy is tossing it back at me, I might need to take it to the ground.

Yeah I kinda missed the days when i relied on striking it definately has its advantages. I keep saying that I am going to work on my striking more but it just doesnt happen.

if i am wearing anything bulky and a SERIOUS situation is about to occur and i am 100% sure i have time to take it off i will. and im sure some of you strikers could learn a thing or two by watching some good hockey fight hightlights how they use the jersey to tie up the arm and of course the famous sweater over the head trick.

If someone is wearing a dress shirt with long sleeves you can grasp his sleeve at the forarm and control him that way (much like a jersey in hockey) then you can raise his arms and shoot and slam him..............let the head stomping begin!

What do you train in now? and what do you use?

i am like 99% judo only at this point..

in a self defense situation i would use my judo takedowns or throws. i would prefer to shoot in and either use a take down or suplex but sometimes a fight is on you before you know it and you need other options.. thats when i would throw, if someone was just in my face before i realized it.

if i can grab the guy w/ my hands i will throw if i cant i will shoot in for a takedown

i would use the throw that i use most in competition just because i have sooooo much time invested in that technique that it makes it very fast and efficient

once on the ground if the guy is still coming at me i look to get a choke in real hard and real fast. w/ chokes there is no need to try to be nice or baby the technique you can just knock the guy out and then get right back up and you will not do any long term damage to the guy and it probably gives you around 30 seconds where he wont do a thing

foot sweeps can also be very very useful in a self defense situation if you are good at them. i have ended judo matches in less that 10 seconds with them so when a drunk comes stumbling at me sometimes a foot sweep becomes the best overall option

i really enjoy training for self defense situations. i mean competing is what i love about judo but thats a nice controlled environment. i like being prepared for the unknown.

the most effective strike is the one delivered before the fight has started in his mind. the strike he does not see coming is always the most effective and deciding blow.

street fights are so situation dependant on how you can react,so id second BRR in saying find a "GOOD" Krav maga school, you goto class in street clothes so it will feel more natural.

either way find one thats well rounded if your worried about using it in a street fight, because most street fights end up on the ground.

I know thats my plan in a fight, unless buddy is huge, I dont want to give anyone a punchers chance to knock me out.

Honestly I think that Xingyiquan is the best ting Ivce ever seen for a Streetfight .

Problem is finding a good , Legit Teacher .
