What are some movies, music, books, anything else that you were just like how the fuck did they come up with that idea? Blew your mind?

I'm house sitting for my Uncle and for the next week get to kick it luxury style, in his pad, really beats my overpriced one bedroom apt. Plus its alot better to watch movies on a 50+ wall screened flat panel sony, than my tiny advertising box. Anyway, I got a little baked last night and SO and I were watching Fight Club, which I haven't seen in years, and being baked, I really felt engulfed in wonder how the author who wrote the book came up with that idea, what a genius, the movie was tremendous... Dialogue was so engaging, and could anyone be a better Tyler Durden than Pitt? Not a BP fan, but amazing performance.
Is there anything that you have seen or heard or experienced that causes you to just wonder, how the fuck did they create that idea, or what was the thought process or motivating feeling, that made it all happen?

Mainly sci-fi or fantasy movies.

Pan's Labyrinth would be a great example.

Memento would be another one.

Sometimes the way a filmmaker "tells" a movie is equally as impressive.

United 93 would be a perfect example of that.

Pans labyrinth I have to see... that is a movie I already know I would love, I gravitate to what the story seems to be about. You should check out city of lost children... its kind of weird, but a good flick. Actually its really weird and is a great movie, when I come to think about it that fits this question.
Memento is a great, great pick... I mean its such a metaphor for what we all seem to be doing with our lives, okay that might be a stretch... but I never would have seen the ending coming...
To understand the function and significance of memory and combine that with the need to have a background story which serves as the established source of motivation...
The need for stories... thats what I get from that movie.
Good post...
I agree, the ability to establish and relay a perception to the audience is such an awesome ability to have. Wish I had that.

Best movie so far this year: In Bruges

Just a sample of the dialogue. Fuggin brilliant. I sat in on a Q & A with the writer/director. Funny fucking guy.

Both Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes give some of the best performances Ive seen in a while.

OMG, thats awesome, I will check that out, I know you can't stand people sometimes 75th, but you dig on great convos, what questions did you ask him? Sometime artistic, visionary types don't relay the idea that well, or are sick of explaining shit, I would be, well not really, but was he kewl?

He was really down to earth. Has made it big as a playwrite in the UK, writing plays for people who dont like plays. He writes a lot of funny, racist, violent shit.

And I can stand everybody.

Sample some of this brilliance. Seriously.

Brainstrom (1983) - Natalie Wood's last film

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainstorm_(1983_film)

A team of scientists which includes estranged husband-and-wife, Michael and Karen Brace (played by Walken and Wood) and Michael's research colleague, Lillian Reynolds (played by Louise Fletcher) invent a special recorder and player device, called "The Hat", which allows sensations and higher brain functions to be scanned directly from a person's brain, taped and reproduced, allowing another person to experience them. Memories and experiences are stored on an iridescent laser tape recorder/player.

When Reynolds suffers a fatal heart attack, she manages to record her own death.
:worried:

Very interesting premise, especially back in 1983.

Dude, I must see this movie, how can you tear into someone, when you have felt what they have... wow...
Reminds me not of the plot, but type of movie, like solaris... which is another great flick that I don't know how they created...

It's been many years since I've watched it.

Perhaps I'll put it on my Netflix que. :)
