Surprised more people don't suffer pec tears

I tore a pec about 3 years ago. Since I live in Canada I had to wait for the surgery after being passed off from doctor to specialist to a couple surgeons unwilling to perform the surgery and finally to one of the best surgeons in Canada. Of course with him being the best I was put on a waiting list so from the time of the injury to the surgery was about 1.5 years.
Fast forward to now. 1.5 years of recuperation and my pec still isn't the same but has gotten alot stronger. Probably about 80% of my strength has come back. Enough to make me decide to get back into competition.
So 4 weeks into my dieting I strain my bad pec. I don't think I tore it, and if I did it's just very slight and not major(off the bone) was it was before.
Nice fucking luck I have.
I'm extremely surprised more bodybuilders don't have this problem. Lucky for them. Believe me, when a pec is torn it's like a car with a flat tire. You may look great everywhere else but that tire is flat and you aren't going to be going too far with it.

You're right, that is bad luck!

You've started dieting already? Last I checked that contest is still 38 weeks out. If I'm right shredded is going to have a new meaning when you are ready.

I had a pec tear over a year ago. Ripped the pec tendon clean off the bone while flat benching during a cycle. Had surgery 2 weeks after the tear. Depression set in and I was popping vicodins like candy. Agonizing rehab for months afterwards just trying to regain flexibility. Kept training legs as best as I could but still lost about 20 lbs of overall muscle mass and arms shrunk almost 2 inches. Finally got the go ahead to start upper body training. Chest was so weak that 80 lbs on flat bench was kicking my ass. Now that's a tough pill to swallow after repping 405. Strength kept going up week after week. Doctors and the rehab folks couldn't believe how fast I was recovering.

To this day its about 90% and feeling pretty damn good. When I'm on cycle nowdays, I tend to back off just a bit when I feel I'm getting too strong too fast.

My chest will be 100% one day. Mind over matter.

That's good Lift or Die. Seeing you had your surgery within a few weeks means you should recover fully.
Me waiting for a year and a half allowed alot of scar tissue to build up making the sugery harder on the sugeon to perform. I was told I should get 90% of my strength back... Well a year and a half after the surgery I had maybe 70-80% of my strength back. Things were going good until this past sunday. I strained or partially tore my pec again doing a weight i have been doing for the last 12 weeks! Plus I just had a week off a month ago so it should have been rested enough. I just don't understand what kind of luck this is..My reps are clean and strict and i'm very careful. Luck has not been on my side with this one..

Good thread. I'll remember these stories next time I'm wanting to throw that extra bit of weight on the bench, especially since I just started my first cycle.

Hey Flex , sorry to hear about that. How is the lat?

I heard there won't be an Ottawa championshit this year , Kevin may not be doing it and I haven't heard of any alternative.

The guy I know who was supposed to compete is now doing the Missisauga on June 1st instead.

So how is the dieting? What are your stats?

Ronin,
Dieting was going great. I started my cycle the day before I strained my pec.
I'm still hanging in there though..I'm going to wait until the end of next week to see how it is and wether I can perform a moderate chest workout or not. There's no point in training half ass for a show, it's hard enough to hang in there doing cardio and dieting not knowing whether or not i'm going to do the show, very hard mentally.
I weighed in at 236 friday night. Legs are looking freaky as ever and upper body looking okay too. My chest was getting better and better until this.
My trainer thinks I look better than ever so I really hope I can do this show. It's the Stratford one on April 20th.
It all depends on how bad I strained it and wether it was a partial tear or not.
It sucks that the Ottawa show got cancelled, I was really looking forward to that one. If I can't make it to this show hopefully my chest heals enough for me to do the kingston one in October.
The last thing I want to do is blow it out again preparing for a show i've already
won, wouldn't that be a kick in the ass.
